This is a wonderful easy bike ride from Siena! "Easy" means about 10 km, not much traffic once out of Siena, quite thrilling arriving! Wish I had tried the pilgrimage path--the Francigena--to return to Siena, but didn't have enough daylight (late afternoon start in November). If you go by car, it won't have the same "pilgrimage" feeling. Ride!

While many tour busses stop at Monteriggioni and it has the feel of a tourist destination, it is still worth a visit because as it is smaller than many of the other hill towns, you can actually get a big picture grasp of its fortifications and towers of defense. The parking is close to the walls and there are bathrooms... More

Smallish old town. A glimpse of the ancient times. Good view and great photo op. But then there are too many of these hill town in Tuscany that you miss it, it's still ok.

Fantastic views over the countryside, and lots of history in one place. Gorgeous. If you're a fan of renaissance history or the Assassin's Creed games it's a brilliant experience.

Interesting village and views. Museum has a "pillory" so good for a picture. Spent a few hours here including a nice lunch.

One ticket for the walk around part of the old wall and the armours museum. Worth the visit because we were waiting for the restaurant and it was a great spot to see the sunset over the valley.

Sweet old place with a wonderful view from top and also some good coffee at reasonable pice right at the beginning once you enter ( left side first cafe run by elderly couple ) One can pay and go further up the walls to get a magnificent view from the top.

Price to walk on the walls (2 separated tracks, but far from a complete walk, very limited distance) was 3 euro per person (parking lot also 3 eur for the first hour). We liked the small town (mainly the market place) but wouldn't go for for the walk on the walls.

If I remember it correctly, a local guy told me that there are 49 people living in Monteriggioni. This place, despite its small population, is amazing. I just do not know how they manage to preserve the beauty of their place. There is like an everyday farmers market in the area. The locals are good artists. I bought a few... More
