Quite a sight!

Totally unexpected in a little street, even though we knew it was there it was still a sight to see. Looks bigger in real life than in the pictures. Don't miss the other ruins further up the street aswell

OK

Nice from the front, but a lot of the "renovation" is incongruous and is very modern. There was a concert in front the second night we stayed in Merida, lots of fun even with social distancing.

Superb Preservation
Feb 2020
During the time of our visit the Temple grounds were also hosting a Prado In The Park exhibition. Recreations of famous painting on display in the Prado were arranged along the sides of the Temple. Temple itself is very impressive and well preserved.

More than 2000 years old

Still impressive after all these years. Founded in year 25 BC. The base is rectangular and surrounded by columns and temple. The columns capitals are Corinthian. As it was mentioned, it is illuminated at night.

We discovered the Temple just wandering around the streets. Fascinating history to it and worth seeing as you stroll.

Great Free Site

There was more to this than expected. We did not realize one can walk around it, up into it, etc. It is in excellent shape and very attractive. And best of all, it is free.

Definitely impressive
Oct 2019
Impressive to see in the middle of town. In the evenings (summer months) you can enjoy live entertainment on a stage with the temple as background, lit up. It is stunning. Entertainment being folklore dancing/singing or a choir.

In the Portugese town Evora (just 3 hours across the border from Badajoz) they also have a templo of Diana. This is actually in an even better structural state. However, it is at a "site" and not in the middle of town.

Little confused by all this

Looks spectacular as you approach but not enough (for me) was made of the standing ruins. But then, when you have such an abundance of world-class Roman sights in an area smaller than my district in South Edinburgh it must be hard to stay on the top of your game.

Also, to be fair, they do have a nice wee exhibition in the upstairs floors of a 15th century manor house that deliberately and with an impressive level of pomposity, hijacked the temple as a part of its design.

Be warned though, entrance is not included in your general site entrance ticket (an essential buy - save loads of dosh), all signage and explanations are in Spanish and you have to watch a very bizarre film before passing through a thick black curtain.

Roman temple in the middle of Merida
Aug 2019
This is a nice Roman ruins that is situated in the middle of Merida surrounded by restaurants and shops. Another piece of Roman history in this area. There is a lot of Roman influence in this city and worth seeing all of the ruins.
