Ancient history aficionados will thrill to this magnificently restored Roman theater, and adjacent amphitheater. Merida was an important city in the empire, a fact made clear by abundant architectural remnants around the town. Don’t miss the Museum of Roman Art at the end of your...More

2,000 years ago a Roman ruler approved the building of a theater and the well preserved remains are what we saw when we visited UNESCO's designated World Heritage Site of Merida. There is much more to see of the Roman town than the theater but...More

We were amazed at how well the Roman theatre has held up all these years. A beautiful sight to see and it’s easy to walk around and take photos from different angles. Highly recommended!

The deal is that the ticket to access the archeological sites is expensive:15€ for all the locations, 12 € for the theatre and the stadium. But being in Mérida you must see it. Better in the afternoon/evening, because there are less people and the light...More

The theater is well-preserved and well-worth a visit. We had been here in 2015 and did not visit again during the rains of 2018. It is, however, a must see.

12 euro seems to be way too expensive for a Roman theater. The Alhambra in Granada is almost the same price and seems to be way more professional! Good luck Merida with pushing people to buy an all-in-one ticket for 15 euro. It's not at...More

The theater and adjacent amphitheater are essential attractions in Merida. The theater has some good explanations about gladiator and the establishment of Augusta Emerita, which was the name for the region under the Romans. Recommend to get the complete ticket which gives you access to...More

A wonderful historical structure in the midst of the city. You can wander pretty freely through the seating area and up onto the stage, and see the structures close up. Unfortunately, they were doing refurbishment of part of the structure on the left side of...More

I managed it solo in two days. However suggested routes are difficult to follow. Would suggest 3 days but with children might what to think about 4 days.

As most people have recommended, I would agree that an overnight stay is worth it. There are many things to see and do and obviously trying the local food is part of the experience of travel. Enjoy!
