Still hanging on
Sep 2021 • Couples
A large Interspar supermarket and a handful of small shops at the opposite side of the corridor is all that is left of the impressive Alpe Adria shopping center. 75 % is empty and blocked from entering; this one wing is still in operation for the last couple of years. Empty parking lots, and a cannon may be fired in the corridor without hitting even one person. To put things in perspective, we visited this well stocked Interspar supermarket on a weekday during lunch time, so maybe it is a bit more busy, say, on a Saturday afternoon. But I expect every year, that the business has been closed down mercifully. However, if you want to stock up on Italian food and drink in a large quiet supermarket with masses of free parking spaces, go to Alpe Adria.

How long will this situation continue
Sep 2016 • Couples
Let's face it. The gigantic shopping mall complex "Alpe Adria" is reduced to one corridor with on one side the Interspar supermarket and on the other side the flotsam and jetsam of struggling shops left over from the impressive range of shops in the mall ten years ago. I think 80 % of the complex is empty; access to this part is permanently barred. The zillion parking places are mostly unoccupied. And it is not so that the Interspar conducts a booming business. From the more than 20 cash desks, mostly 2 or 3 are in operation. This venture has to lose money and I wonder how long this situation will continue.

A shadow of its former self

Apart from a good supermarket there's very little left here as its being run down to give way for another type of development.

The last straw
May 2015 • Couples
Last year it was bad in Centro Commerciale Alpe Adria, with unoccupied store space all over the center and anchor store "Scarpe & Scarpe" defected to the Fiera shopping mall, but this year it was worse; another anchor store, SME, had given up and all remaining shops (9 shops in total) had been transferred to retail spaces opposite the Interspar hypermarket. Summarizing: Only the wing with the Interspar was left of the giant mall, the rest was unoccupied and barred. The last straw for Alpe Adria before closing all together. I wonder what will happen next.

A dying shopping mall
May 2014 • Couples
Centro Commerciale Alpe Adria on the SS13 was extensively expanded and renovated some years ago and has every advantage: Right at the thoroughfare SS13 with dedicated entrance, ample free parking space indoors and outdoors, a pleasant atmosphere and a huge Interspar supermarket as anchor. But over the years we have seen this shopping mall decline. More and more shops were closed and boarded up and on our last visit we noticed, that another important anchor shop, the huge Scarpe & Scarpe shoe store was boarded up, leaving only Interspar and SME as anchors. As there is obviously less money to spend, also in Italy of course and competition is fierce between shopping centers, I think this shopping mall will close altogether in a couple of years. A pity, because there was good and pleasant shopping to have, but now even the ice-cream counter has given up. And the Lidl supermarket across the road is less expensive than Interspar. Also on branded articles.
