This lovely natural area features howler monkeys, a large variety of birds, pleasant hiking trails, and an idyllic waterfall perfect as the backdrop to a romantic picture. Guides, expert at local birds, available to point out and identify wildlife. I got a photograph of the beautiful motmot, Nicaragua's national bird, as well as other monkeys, birds and reptiles. If possible... More

If you’re familiar with outdoor activities and outings in Central America, it will be no surprise to you that you have to take a dirt road with many ruts in it to get to this natural reserve. I was pleasantly surprised at how far down the road there were pavers, however, as I expected the whole 7 km to be... More

I have visited this reserve many times over the years as it is very close to my pineapple farm. The 7 kilometer drive from the Carretera Concha to the park winds through some beautiful farmland. The road is part adoquine in the steep parts so even a small passenger car can make the drive. The best time to arrive is... More

A little difficult to get to, and if you miss a sign, you'll have some fun, but the people are friendly. There's some public transportation available, too, in a moto taxi. About 6 or 7 km outside of Ticuantepe, the is some kind of cooperative reserve not funded by the government. Fresh water crabs, toucans, monkeys, armadillos, insects, and those... More

Visited at the end of February and was privileged to see many local birds as well as migrants, but the highlight is seeing the chocoyos (green parakeets) come at dusk into their holes in the wall. We had to wait a long time to see them because while they were gathering to enter their holes a hawk flew by and... More

The reason for going is to see the Pacific Parakeets flying into the holes in the cliffs and that happens in late afternoon. It is a beautiful place with waterfall and lots of parakeets in la tarde, but not many other birds because of the constant flow of people on our busy day during Semana Santa.

Perfect timing to see some birds, walk the small hike. El brujo waterfall is closed. Guides said morning was better to see more species of birds. Get there by tuktuk.

Getting here was about an hour and a half from Granada, but I thought it was worth it. It was a really I teresting drive through pineapple fields. The hike itself was really nice and we saw birds and an owl. We waited until about 4:45 to see the parakeets. They come in pairs, and don't flock in all at... More

We took a great hike with our fantastic guide Ricardo from hacienda puerta del cielo. It felt like we were literally the only people there and enjoyed the amazing quiet and beauty of the rain forrest then at dusk saw the hundreds of parrots flying home to nest on the rock face. Really unique and magical, hard to believe a... More

I've taken El Porton Verde guests here a few times and it is always a pleasure to take a cool walk in the forest then after about a fifteen to twenty minute easy hike, end up in this cliff-walled grotto with a lovely waterfall and if you go towards the afternoon about 4:30 or so, you'll see hundreds of Pacific...
