About
Situated in the former Capucins convent of Landerneau, the FHEL – Fonds Hélène & Édouard Leclerc pour la Culture – has received more than 1,000,000 visitors. Since it opened its doors in 2012, it has become the top cultural destination in Western France and is today a must-see not only for contemporary art enthusiasts, but also for an increasingly diverse public. Founded in the autumn of 2011, the FHEL is an endowment fund run by an administrative council and chaired by Michel-Édouard Leclerc. On the initiative of numerous members of the Leclerc family, members and former members of Mouvement E.Leclerc, together with other individuals, the fund is entirely financed by donations from private patrons.

Excellent exhibition on Picasso.
Aug 2017
Once again we have enjoyed the exhibition at the Leclerc fondation. There are two art museums that you should not miss if you come to Britany: The arts museum in Pont- Aven and Leclerc in Landerneau. We highly recommend both.

Interesting Picasso Expo in a Small Breton Town
Aug 2017 • Couples
One rainy day in August, we visited the Fonds Helen et Edouard Leclerc foundation to see the Picasso exhibit. This exhibit is from private collections and traces the history of the famous artist. The works in the building are well presented. The only negative is the way the organization (lack of) of the entry. No real organization of the queue nor explanation of how long the wait would be (important as we were waiting in the drizzling rain). Worth the eight euro entrance charge.

Picasso Exhibition

Fabulous exhibition of Picasso family collection, over 200 paintings many from his last years. Only 8 euros entrance charge. Would go back if we had the time.

Incredible PICASSO exhibition
Jul 2017 • Couples
We already know this fondation, they offer very comprehensive exhibits of major painters in such a small and lovely town!!!! This year, they have organized a Hans Hartung exhibition, where, unfortunately we could not come (we are living in Paris). But this summer this is this fantastic exhibition of the "private paintings of PICASSO" with 200 works including really a lot of TOP NOTCH paintings of Picasso...really impressive: very quiet - no crowd- An exhibition like this in Paris: 2 hours of Queuing!!!
Just a recommendation to some neglecting parents: an exhibition is NOT a Children Garden..

Fabulous art gallery in a tiny town...
Mar 2017 • Friends
We visited the gallery last Sunday to see the Hans Hartung exhibition and were very impressed with the work and the gallery itself. Beautifully situated in a restored building in a quiet corner of Landerneau, the gallery is well lit, spacious and shows the work off to its best advantage. There is a car park opposite which is free to visitors to the gallery. A small gift shop on the exit. As far as I could tell there was no coffee shop! Highly recommended.

Excellent exhibition in an interesting building
Aug 2016 • Friends
The Chagall exhibition was superb, easy to find with plenty of nearby parking. The building has excellent modern washrooms and a good shop. The exhibition was well curated with all info in French and English, and was comprehensive.
Lovely town with a river running through. A really nice surprise! I will be watching for new exhibitions now and intend to visit again.
The only flaw was the long queue for the shop, with only one person serving.

Excellent Chagall exhibit (until Nov 1st 2016)
Jul 2016 • Couples
We were really surprised to find a comprehensive Chagall exhibit in this little town.
The quality and scope of the exhibit was beyond what we expected.Well presented.
The Chagall Expo ends Nov 1st 2016. Not sure what's on afterwards.

Chagall exhibit is superb
Jul 2016 • Couples
I don't know about other exhibits at Le Fonds but this was amazing. It runs until Nov 2016. Curated by Jean-Louis Prat.
There were collections of Chagall's many illustrated books from his early life in Russia to his last days in France almost 100 years later. Seeing originals of this remarkable storyteller painter can't help but open one's senses and imagination. Brilliant mythic themes right up close. Plan on a few hours to savor.

Exhibition of Giacometti from 14/06 to 25/10/2015
Jul 2015
By pure luck, while I am in Bretagne, there is an exhibition of Giacometti organized by Fonds Hélène & Édouard Leclerc Pour la Culture at Salle des Capucins. If you wonder who Gicometti is, he was the twentieth-century Swiss sculptor who made elongated skinny statues. The "Walking Man" is his famous statue. The exhibition does a fantastic job in highlighting his artistic trajectory and his outlook of life that shaped his work. Very interesting!

Dubuffet exhibition from 22 June to 2 November 2014
Aug 2014 • Friends
It is great to think that this foundation brings to Brittany exhibitions often reserved to capital cities. After an exhibition on Miro last summer, this year there is a Dubuffet exhibition. The building is in the centre of Landerneau, well signposted and close to a car-park (which is non-paying for 3 hours if you go to the exhibition and have your ticket validated). For a few euros (no senior rate but children free up to 18), you can discover the works of this 'insoumis' (rebel) artist, browse through his sketch books, even take photos (without flash). There are guided tours but the times for these are not made clear.
