Charming little church and entrancing “ghost church”
Oct 2018 • Couples
We stopped to see the ghost church and discovered the later, but still very old stone church. The way the ghost church was built is very effective with the metal structure showing how the original would have looked but also looking insubstantial as if in another dimension. It was worth walking around it to see it from every angle.

Inside the 11th century church, on the wall as if a mural, is the colorful bits from the mosaic floor of the older church.

Do not miss this beautiful old Church and modern ghost Church

Dates back to 1100 with an even older Church underneath that goes back to 700's. A few years ago a famous architect built a replica of the original structure out of chicken wire which is a site to see. It's even more enchanting at night with it's lighting

Church and reconstruction are mesmerizing
Mar 2018 • Couples
Santa Maria Maggiore di Siponto is a church built in the 11th and 12th centuries. It is in the Romanesque style and made out of warm golden stone. Inside is quite plain. I imagine it used to be covered in frescoes. The portico outside is lovely and there are some old carvings. Beside it is a much older church. Since the older church has been reduced to just the foundation, an artist has made a wire enclosure of what the church would have looked like. It even includes the suggestion of people. There is also a mosaic floor.

The admission to the site is free and the people running the place are friendly and helpful.

The church together with its info is really interesting

The church together with its info is really interesting. Beter than the churches in Manfredonia. The information provided at the site is really worth the visit

I visited this site with a group of international students. Those interested in art, architecture and history found it fascinating,The middle age church and the ultra modern reconstruction of the early Christian Basilica of the modern stucture some how blend together. The effect of the lighting in the early evening is quite spectacular.

wonderful experience between Middle Age and 21st century
Aug 2016 • Friends
The church is wonderful: the simple and pure lines of Romanesque style face up with Tresoldi's installation (the early Christian basilic made with wire cloth). You can admire the Madonna Icon of the 5th century forgetting time&commitments&everything else.
The church(es) stands up in the middle of the archological site: out of date but - surprisingly - contemporary.

Very unique
May 2016 • Couples
It's a small church compared to the other Romanesque churches in Puglia, but the interesting feature of this site is the unique structure built over the archeological site adjacent to the church. Unfortunately the crypt was closed that day. Beware of the church's opening hours.

A very interesting reconstruction of a paleochristian basilica on the side of a romantic church.
It's worth the time of you are around!
