Interesting museum
Aug 2019
Interesting museum, you can see what the passion of a person can do and how lovely he wants to share it with others.
The museum is not too big, but full of items from the boat ans also from the war period.
You can even watch a film inside.

It was not open when I tried in March
Mar 2020
I was keen to try this museum given the history of the Tirpitz. It was however closed when I visited in March!

Well Worth a Visit
Mar 2020
Recently I was on a cruise and had the opportunity to visit the site where the Tirpitz was sank. Unfortunately about 1100 sailors lost their lives. I recall the time as a youngster when the RAF and mini submarines were involved in its sinking. The tour incorporated visiting the crater where one of the bombs exploded on land. We then went to see the exhibition that contained several items found in he oil-soaked sand at the point where the ship toppled trapping all those seamen.

A Great WW2 Museum
Jan 2020
When researching Alta, I heard of the Tirpitz Museum and was particularly keen to visit it as my father had been on the Arctic Convoy during the war. Although normally closed during the winter months, I managed to arrange for them to open for me and I am so glad that they did.
Although the museum is quite small, the number of artefacts they have on display is amazing ranging from uniforms to musical instruments and even a typewriter salvaged from the wreck.
If you are in the area and have an interest in WW2 history, do try to visit the museum.
Highly recommended.

An amazing museum
Nov 2019
I suspect that the museum closes in the winter, so check that it's open before planning a visit in winter.

Tirpitz museum, relatively small but worth the visit
Aug 2019 • Family
A small museum, but packed with information and items from the Tirpitz and associated ww2 material. An informative video is shown with original footage which gives you necessary background information to appreciate your (unguided) tour through the museum. Collection of maquettes of the Tirpitz and associated ww2 battle ships present. In my opinion very well organized, well maintained. Truly kind personell. If you're in the neighborhood, it is definitely worth the visit, especially if you are interested in the Ww2 and want to know more about the history of the area of Norway which is not very well known. A lot happened here in this remote area during Ww2 Don't miss it.

Worth the effort

Great little volunteer museum. Some pretty amazing artifacts and stories in there. No public transport to get to and from there if you are based in Alta. We ended up renting a car for half a day and driving the 10 minutes to get there. Well worth the trip.

The museum is very small but well worth the visit
We where split into two groups as we were from a coach party, one group watch a couple of documentary films from both sides of the conflict while the other group looked around the museum.

Expalins WWII in Norway
Mar 2019 • Couples
The Altafjord was the Nazi’s largest naval base outside Germany. The Tirpitz Museum is just outside the town in Kafjord and is named after the battleship that was based here and later destroyed by the British. There is a good film about the Tirpitz and many artifacts that show Norway’s struggle against the Germans.

A Must See for WW II History Buffs
Mar 2019 • Couples
This is one of the better WW II history museums I have seen. There are several artifacts here from the Tirpitz & the museum also has a very interesting film. This is about an hours drive from Alta & there is no public transportation that will take you here.
