The Church of St. Lawrence is a church in Vantaa dating back to 1450. It is the oldest building in Vantaa.
The Helsingin pitäjä district is one of the best-preserved historical parishes in Finland. There are many old houses around the church area.
The medieval church was badly destroyed in a fire in 1893, after which it was reconstructed in a Gothic Revival style. The church got Neo-Gothic style tapered windows, pulpit, benches, galleries, and a copper roof.
The church is a very popular wedding church and venue for concerts.

What is so special with this church? My opinion is that there were too many people and all of them looked very sad. Even the female squirrel that we saw in spruce looked unhappy. I have seen many better old churches. And happier squirrels too.

It's a beautiful church with just the right atmosphere. It's modestly decorated in the Lutheran spirit.

One of the most beautiful churches in the metropolitan area. Especially in the Christmas time. Do not forget to visit the chapel near by. It is a jewel of modern architecture.

Old and beautiful church in countrisde surroundings, although so close to urban parts of Vantaa. Easy access by public transport. 10 min drive from the Helsinki-Vantaa airport, so if you have a short stop over, this could be a place to see nearby!

As being atheist I can only give my opinion of the church itself. It is called Pyhän Laurin kirkko and it is the original one. There is another church in Lohja by same name but truth is that this one we have in Vantaa is the first and finest that name! Go and see, it is lovely both in and outside.

The church has been in it´s place since year 1452 which is forty years earlier before Columbus found America to put things in a time line. I have visited it many times because our family grave is there but luckily we have had more baptisisms and weddings than burials there. One day I will be buried there in the famly grave so I can highly recommend it.

This church made of stone was built around 1450. It is the oldest building around Helsinki. Very beautiful smallish church inside out. It's no wonder the church is one of the most popular wedding churches in the country. After renovation in the Spring time the church is open again.

This area is known for a load of Pokemon stops and a gym as well. The church itself was not on our list of places to visit. The building itself has a number 1893 written on it and that makes it an ooooold building.

They have made a great job restoring the original mural paintings of the vaulted ceiling. The recent renovation of the woodwork has also been excellent. You really should visit this 15th century masterpiece.

What is the mode of transport available from the airport & is it possible to have a comfortable visit to this place during a four hour stopover at Helsinki Airport?

Hello! Best option is to take a taxi and ask it to wait. There is also bus number 561 which makes You walk about 1km to and from the church and I am not sure of its timetable. The church is open mo-fri 12.00-20.00 and there is a guide 12.30-20.00 during summertime until 31.8-18. I hope this will help You and welcome to Finland!
