Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Imatrankoski is a beuatiful and powerful place with lots of history. One can spen d anything between 10 minjutes to a day walking and admiring the power of water and the nice nature around.
Even withiut the showtimes you can be lucky to see the dam open and the water flowing.

"The music started and gates slowly let the water flow. Water flow increases and starts to turn into roaring rapids and water fog. Sleeping Sun by Nightwish is playing in the speakers allover the place and water dances even harder." It is almost melancholicly breathtaking start for the show that displays the raw power of rapids. Show of rapids (Koskishow) takes about 20 minutes until the gates closes and the water disappear into downstream.
Definately worth of watching.

Very powerful experience! One moment the river is empty and you see the rocky bottom and next moment it is full of white water. Great!

The daily rapid show during the summer months is a must. I have seen it several times and it is just incredible everytime. You get cold vibes in your back every time they open the gates. The wind will raise. The temperature will fall. The birds will stops singing. And finally, the water roars over the stones ....

You can hear the rapid before can see it. This spectacular place is just couple minutes walk from main street of Imatra. There was no show when visited but was still worth the travel.

Imatrankoski rapids are the end result of the Ice Age. Once they were one of the largest free-flowing waterfalls in the Nordic countries. In 1929 the rapids were blocked for hydroelectric production.

Imatrankoski is still allowed to flow free in the shows, which are arranged between June and August according to separate schedules. During the shows, the water is allowed to run in the old, narrow stream bed of the Vuoksi River. The show time is approximately 20 minutes.

During our visit, there was no show but the old Valtionhotelli next to the rapids was worth to see. And also the power plant.

beautiful place to hang out. Imatrakoski is not too crowded but has everything you need. Shops and forest are close.

Imatra is beautiful South Carelian town with many nice places and attractions to see. Small and cozy city centre Imatrankoski has good services and few hotels available. Imatrankoski is also a name of famous rapids - when the dam gates are opened, there is huge amount of water flowing free over the rocks - amazing. On the bank of th e rapids, there is most beautify building in Finland - Valtionhotelli (State hotel).

Waterfall and power plant was under renovation until 2018 and there wasn't any water flowing. That was small disappointment but actually empty gorge is really impressive with rough rock edges and deep bottom. You can see the whole gorge and how rock has been teared apart long time ago. You can walk along the river watching great piece of nature. At the lower pavilion you can see rock carvings where famous visitors have been signed their visits during the 17 century. Jugend hotel next to river is also magnificent masterpiece.
