Amazing place and a must see when in Montego Bay! Feeding the hummingbirds was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life and the whole place is so pretty with bird feeding points all over the sanctuary. Couldn’t recommend more!!

from the Montego Bay Hilton it took about 40 min. to get there (the people drive fast and weave in/out of traffic. Amazing). Before arriving in Jamaica we couldn't decide which tour to take. The prices were all over the landscape, it was hard to tell exactly what to expect there and when the tour length is stated as 1-3 hrs. you wonder why that would be. Here's the scoop: at the hotel tour desk we wound up booking a tour for a pricey $160 plus admission. That is based on 2 people. The 160 is strictly for the cost of getting you there and back. The admission is sometimes listed as $25pp and sometimes $20pp. When we arrived nobody collected the money. There was a bowl and people put their money into it. Based on what we saw not everybody is honest which is tragic. The size of the sanctuary should be described as somewhat small but in a lovely setting with a huge wooden porch from where you can see Montego Bay. There's a little concrete walkway that takes you underneath the porch.. but that's it for the walking ability. When you arrive you are greeted by the nephew of Lisa Salmon who founded this place. She died in 2000. He asks you to sit in one of numerous chairs, puts a little seed on your pants, gives you a small bottle and shows you how to hold it, including your finger … and voila, the hummingbirds come. It's quite an experience to watch these lovely Swallow Tailed Hummingbirds who are totally tame, sit on your finger and extract the nectar out of the bottle while the other little birds (forgot their name) come on your leg and pick away at the seeds. All around is a buzzing of a variety of birds from the Jamaican Orioles, Common Ground Doves, Jamaica Mango, Red Billed Streamers, etc. plus a couple of female Peacocks. You are surrounded by lovely trees and flowering plants with lots of feeders to attract these birds. Wonderful photo op opportunities! Don't know if there's a bathroom. The walk from the road can be a bit of a challenge for someone with walking disabilities (brink hiking poles). You can spend an hour there or three. Up to you. It's a most enjoyable and unique experience.

This is a truly magical place. Evolving from the dreams and efforts of one woman, the property now hosts dozens of species of Jamaican birds, and it's even possible to hand feed the elusive streamer tail hummingbirds("doctor birds" ) who have been visiting for generations. Fritz is a wonderful and caring guide, and can help identify the rarities. Photo opportunities abound!

what a fabulous experience. the road to the sanctuary is interesting and not very well signposted but we managed it two up on a moped. we were greeted by the very polite and well informed finch. hummingbirds swooped around us and fed from the bottles we held while sitting on our fingers. other birds fed in the trees around us as the knowledgeable finch named them for us with his equally knowledgeable young assistant and took photos for us. mind blowing. thank you

We just got back from Rocklands and it was a truly memorable experience. We had read other reviews so were prepared for the narrow and steep potholed access road. It was part of the experience. The cottage garden and patio itself were quite small but very pretty and full of birds many of whom fed off our fingers and knees. Magical. Very simple and rural and underdeveloped. Well worth the $20 US each that we paid. We were not hassled for more and invited to walk around the garden after we had spent 40 minutes or so interacting with the humming birds and other species some of which were semi tame. My advice would be to read the reviews before you go so you know what to expect and if it appeals go for it. The overwhelming majority of reviews are positive. My wife was very keen. I was less so but thoroughly enjoyed it.
