We were a bit overwhelmed when we arrived because we did not expect this to be such a big and crowded place. The complex is huge and has a lot of different activities to offer and seems very popular with tourists, mainly from Belgium I would say.
As it was a very hot day we ended up spending quite some time in the shade sipping on the beer, which was very good. There is a fairly big shop where you can find all sorts of things including the beer.
The whole area is very scenic and the nature is just beautiful. Well worth a visit if you are out driving on the Belgian country side.

The tour through the abbey was very disappoint. The guide only stop in front of the painting, where she talked for 15 min, then we pass quickly through the the inner garden and went on the other side. This was the whole abbey visit. Cheese factory was also quite disappointing. Its a small room, with 10 min talk and then they open a curtain where cheese on the trolley are standing. This is it. Nice surrounding to walk around, beer was also good (no brewery there), bread, cheese severely overpriced (and same as you can buy 50% cheaper at the local Belgian stores). It was good to go there once, but not planning on returning.

Lovely place, with a great, convivial atmosphere. My friend and I went there for the beer tasting and the guided visit of the Abbey. I recommend both. I particularly appreciated the friendliness of the staff (which is, btw, mostly composed of young people, and that's a plus!). We had sun and snow in the same day, and I would say that you can go there no matter if it's sunny or not, you'll enjoy anyway. Also, the cafeteria is definitely pet-friendly!! :)

I live for almost 50 years in Belgium and never made it to this place. However, I drink their beer and eat their cheese for years. This weekend I went with friends to Maredsous. It was a sunny summer day. The beer tasting was a must ... and it was soooo good. Afterwards, we had a 1 1/2 hour walking tour visiting the area. WE had a great time! At the end of the tour we had a second beer tasting .... still so good!

We came for beer and lunch. The Maredsous salad was described as having pink lady apple, sun dried tomatoes and Maredsous cheese. Ours had none of this- wilted soggy lettuce, pine nuts, cherry tomatoes and tough grilled chicken. The service was very slow and not a word was said until I mentioned when paying that the salad had nothing in it that was advertised. Then the waitress advised there were “problems in the kitchen “ and charged me for 1 salad instead of 2.
It is beyond me why they served this instead of saying up front there was a problem. I don’t like complaining and I felt they were relying on people not doing so.
It’s such an odd combination a Benedictine abbey absolutely raking it in from tourists.

We were staying in Annevoie and it had been suggested that this was a place to visit while on a scenic drive in the area. We dropped in for an afternoon snack. We chose the beer taster with cheese. We received four different beers and a wedge of cheese which cost 10 euros. We enjoyed this sample and sat in the outdoor courtyard to enjoy it. Free parking outside. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

Called in as part of a tour group and we had a local guide take us through, the guide was very knowlegable and the tour of the Abbey itself was very interesting, later went into the cafe for lunch and beer, the service was chaotic and disorganised, the soup was quite tasty but the bread very hard and not overly nice and the beer was a fail for most in our group with most glasses left 3/4 full. So visit the abbey and gift shop sit outside and have a coffee and pass on the beer and food.

Not to exaggerate; it's really not that far from Namur, but the road is bucolic and twisty. We'd been here before years ago, and I'd return again. There are multiple eating possibilities, but we chose to go the terrace route. A little food stall in the park, with a nice "plateau de dégustation" or nibbles from Abbey specialties: cheese, bread, and salami, with tiny onions and pickles to round things out. To accompany your beer, of course. Afterwards, we had a delicious ice cream cone, under the trees.

We made quite a long journey to get here, with children, and when they arrived everyone was hungry and thirsty. We knew there were food options but the canteen turned out to involve using three different long queues which was pretty impractical, although the food and beer was good.
With younger children plan to bring blankets if you want to sit outside as on a sunny weekend the lawn near the playground was the only option and the grass is patchy.
We hadn’t realised the only way to see the monastery and cheese production was by guided visit. We would have planned to arrive earlier to do that as it certainly would have made our visit more interesting but by the time lunch was done the kids needed to play and then there wasn’t time.
