We did not spend a lot of time here, just a park and walk. There are so many good beaches in Kohala and we only had 5 days. The $5 parking pass from Hapuna is good here so you do not have to pay twice. This beach is very scenic with lots of trees, alive and dead, and black lava... More

Gorgeous beach that we enjoyed fully all day. Great boogie boarding for all ages, nice sand and driftwood, shade from the trees, easy to access from the parking lot. Highly recommended.

This has been one of my favorite beaches for many, many years. Although the road is paved now, so many more people on the beach, but can always find a little quiet spot!

When we pulled up to this beach it was like looking at a postcard. Clear water with amazing sea life. Tree line gives shade if needed. Even a rope to swing on into the water. Perfect beach for kids to play and explore. Best beach on the big island. Come back at night for a picture perfect sunset.

This is great little version of Hapuna. Super soft sand. Waves for swimming and boogie boarding. Even some good snorkeling to the north around the rocks. But for some reason when the crowds come to the beach they all go to the cove on the right. Tons of people pack into this smallish area when there is lots of room... More

Liked it a lot, not so much for swimming but for the opportunity to take pictures with great and various backgrounds. It's a rocky beach so you have to be careful all the time when walking around. There are not too many people. You can relax under a tree. It was great.

This beach is perfect for little kids and was very busy over Thanksgiving break. Hapuna Beach is beautiful but can be too windy. This is the beach with ample shade, practically wind free, and on the north tip you'll find a perfect bit of sandy beach access for kids to play in. There's also fun snorkeling around all the lava... We went a couple of days ago. The day was super windy and I was worried that it'd be hard to sit at the beach with sand blowing in our faces... but this beach was perfect! There were so many trees close to the beach that they provided perfect little shelters from the wind, the sun and other beach-goers! When... More

Park of Hapuna State Park, Waialea Beach is South of the main Beach. There are black rocks, many trees for shade, restrooms, showers and changing areas. It was nice to hear the crashing waves against the large rocks. There was an area with rope "swings" if you are brave enough to swing out and jump off into the water. No... More

This beach is fairly small, but it has everything! There is sun and there is shade. There is silky sand bottom for swimming in the middle and there are rocks and corals on both sides that make for amazing snorkeling. The only downside, is that there is not a whole lot of sand surface, especially at high tide, so the... More
