Great information about the ancient rock art in the Comonica Valley. Worth the time it takes to research and drive to. Allow yourself plenty time to allow visit the rocks in the valley.

A small museum in Capo di Ponte exhibiting both copper age and later Bronze and Iron Age exhibits of interest particularly if you are visiting for the Rock Art or understanding of early Alpine civilisations. There are even older Paleolithic examples. Many examples relating to staeli and menhirs for instance from Ossimo Pat. The oldest displays relate to material more than ten thousand years old.

The museum had some interesting pieces and the entrance was included in the ticket for the Naquane Park. However, after seeing the other rock carvings out in the forest the museum didn’t have the same impact. I did like the upstairs section where they had jewellery and arrow heads on display. It was very clean and well laid out.

Difficult to find but following the brown notices with straight line zig zag pattern helps and is located opposite to what looks like a kindergarten in a nondescript street. The exhibit is well presented and well looked after. Many exhibits have English interps as well as Italian. No food or drink for sale but clean toilets on the 2nd floor. Over the are two big rocks too big to have been burried by the medieval Christians and too big to take to the museum. Walking up the valley a short distance is a delightfully! looked after cemetery and then a council park with more Mesolithic rocks but you need an expert eye to see the engraved patterns but the area has the right feel.

This very new museum in the center of Capo di Ponte features stele (large engraved rocks) on the ground floor which are very beautiful. The second floor has a well presented survey of the local archaeology, including some Roman ruins. Some of the descriptions are in English.
