About
Instituted in 2005 in occasion of the 50th anniversary of the National Park of Rock Engravings of Naquane, the City Archaeological Park of Seradina and Bedolina preserves a lot of engraved rocks with, principally, single figures, men with weapons also on horses, hunting beatings, plough scenes. These carvings have been dated, mostly, between Bronze Age (2000 b.C.) and Iron Age (1000 b.C.). In the highest zone of the Park (Bedolina) it is possible to admire the famous “Map of Bedolina”, probably a topographic reproduction of the around territory. Inside the Park there are five different itineraries consisting of easy paths plunged in the nature that visitors can follow in order to discover the sectors the Park consists in. The particular micro-climate characterizing this area permits the growth of uncommon natural species such as Opuntia Compressa (a little Indian fig). This context was considered, by prehistoric tribes, as an holy one and the mountains protecting the area (Pizzo Badile and Concarena), during special periods of the year, “play” with sun and its rays, producing light tricks.

We visited on a sunny hot autumn day, with only 1 other visitor in the whole place, so we enjoyed a peaceful wander through these ancient glades, with wild flowers and butterflies all around. The inscribed rocks and easily located, and there are helpful drawings on the signs. We exited via the top of the park, and strolled back down to Capo di Ponte

Had the privilege of being guided through the park by Alberto Maretta. He has just completed the mapping of Rock 12 which contains more than 1700 images. There is also the famous Berolina Map which perhaps maps the fields below the rock in ancient times; however the discovery of a nearby "map" which does not overlook anything may undermine this interpretation. Its a fascinating park. There is a lot to see here if you are very interested - at least half a day maybe a full day's visit.

We visited this site only because the national site in the town is closed on Mondays. That was a happy accident and entry to this site is free so that was a bonus. We stayed for 4.5 hours and didn't manage to see everything. The site is compact and well maintained. One of our party walks with difficulty but managed to access almost all the major rocks. We just didn't attempt the walk up to the famous 'map' rock. When we visited the ground was strewn with sweet chestnuts. There is a small picnic area and you get great views of the valley and mountains. Before visiting the carvings in situ it was helpful to us to visit a building which housed an exhibition of plaster cast impressions of some of the petroglyphs/carvings although the interpretative boards were only in Italian which limited the usefulness for us. (Also in this building is a family room). Fortunately all the boards in the park itself are in both italian and English and are very useful in both locating the carvings on the rocks and understanding their context. And there are a lot of carvings. The place is stuffed with them. Not just on the big rocks which have interpretative boards. Part of the fun for me was finding carvings that were not part of the tourist trail. Just kneel down in front of a rock and look at a picture made by someone who kneeled in the same spot a few thousand years ago.

We spent two days in Seradina and Bedolina and will definitely return. The setting was spectacular, with amazing views.

good access with car, parking is next to local cemetery and walk a few hundred meters.
Drawings are well marked and next to each is a written explanation (the route is marked with brown road signs).

This may be the second most important Valcamonica rock art site after Naquane and is special in its own right. There are the usual depictions of persons, animals, and houses, but up the hill there is a rock called the "Map of Bedolina", carved on a rock named "Bedolina 1".
