Unexpected gardens

Small nursery which hides some interesting gardens- lots of variety and gives you plenty of ideas to use at home. Excellent café for just a coffee or lunch- seemed very popular... read more

I have been going to Merriments a few times over the year and often pop in if I am visiting friends in Hawkhurst. The garden as ever is lovely and peaceful and the planting is definitely maturing and giving the garden focus and structure. Sadly the Garden Centre which I hear has been for sale for a while now is... More

We've visited the garden and tearoom many times over the years. No complaints about the garden. I can see why people say that it's a showroom for the nursery but it's very well-executed in design terms and the colours are beautiful. I always particularly enjoy the peace of the bird hide. However, the cafe has deteriorated. The staff need educating... More

We are going around gardens using our 2 for 1 vouchers. The garden at Merriments is one of the nicest, most interesting and colourful we have seen. Shame though about the tea room which is very over priced - over £7 for a jacket potato.

We have been visiting Merriments over the last 25? years, today was the latest such visit. Something has changed here, the shop is very bare compared to how it used to be,there used to be much more to browse around including books, not any more. The plant area was also pretty sparse even though it is late summer now.It certainly seemed to have... We first visited the garden when it had just been started very many years ago. Then it was a rather muddy expanse but what an astounding development since. The plantings have been really thought out well, demonstrating many different gardening styles and effects. Given the substantially proportion of herbaceous plantings which as so labour intensive, it is extremely well maintained.... More

Thank you for your appreciation of the Garden and all the hard work we do. You are quite right about the labels, some customers do take them! Having developed the Gardens over the last 25 years or so from what was a field it is always nice to know that they are appreciated. Many thanks More

Made a return visit to this garden this week. The garden has a fine selection of plants and trees mostly labelled for those of us amateurs who want to know what we've looked at. Was particularly impressed with the very tidy planting with many vistas as you stroll around. Loved the Catalpa Aurea. There is also a very good restaurant... More

Went to Merriments today and we were so impressed by the beautiful gardens and grounds. Gave us ideas for the flower borders. Had a great lunch in the cafe/restaurant, well worth the value with lovely Cole slaw!. Very friendly polite staff, would recommend the visit.

Well maintained gardens. Many different types of plants in a variety of displays. Not a large " garden" can be seen in an hour. Next to nursery and garden shop.

The garden is well maintained by the gardeners. You can visit a small walled garden, some woodlands and a part with some ponds. Nice view on the surrounding fields. The large borders were nice, but I didn't saw anything I would re-use. I didn't see anything inspiring. The tearoom at the same place serves good food and local drinks, but... More
