About
Taevaskoja nature trail is 3 km long and goes along both banks of the Ahja River. The trail starts in the Saesaare parking lot of the State Forest Management Centre which is situated near Saesaare small town on the road between Taevaskoda and Kiidjarve. The entire trail runs in the landscape reserve of the Ahja River. There are 10 observation points on the trail with boards providing information in English, Russian and Estonian. At the beginning of the trail there is also a board displaying maps of the trail and recreation area, and direction signs. At the level of difficulty it ranks in the middle.Interesting to know:The folk call high sandstone outcrops Heaven’s Hall (Taevaskoda).

Wonderful nature trial
Sep 2019
We spent the whole morning walking around the paths at the Taevaskoja nature trail. Wonderful calming scenery. Would recommend spending some time as the walks are nice and you can choose between different paths with different lenghts. A must stop if passing by, a good place to spend the day with family.

Nice to get into the bush and explore the walks around here. Lots of trees, greenery and water and some nice history signs that are also in English.

Foe nature lovers

I think Nuuksio-lovers (of Finland) would enjoy this.
We took the green route (aprox 4km) and it was super nice! Lovely touch with all the mystical stories during the route.
Pack a lunch and have it by the river.

Lovely

Multi-colored sandstone cliffs on the Ahja River. Swallows nests in the wall. A small maiden's cave with many myths. Natural spring water to drink - bring your bottle.

Estonia is NOT just flat!
Aug 2017 • Family
Well-constructed and ecologically sensible paths (circuits of different length) through forested area including medium-sized lake, rapids, meanders, an open meadow, impressive sandstone cliffs and caves, etc. Highly recommended. Great for kids, too.

If you have time and stamina, there are several additional great walks!
Sep 2016 • Family
Most of people are visiting only main hiking trail, which leads to two sandstone cliffs. But if you have extra time and stamina, there are more great spots and walks.

In the field behind Suur Taevaskoja (bigger, second cliff), there's sign post and marked path to Otteni. There you can find stone bridge; and when you cross the river, there's canyon-like road going uphill - both of them are nice and iconic. Although sign post tells, that distance is 2 km's, it's barely 1 km.

From Otteni, if you dare, you can cross the bridge and return on the other bank of river. It's not marked yet (as in 2016), but there are several easy-to-find roads and smaller paths, so you should be OK. Most of distance can be covered on the bank of river (except very first couple of hundred meters). That way, you will end up in the top of Suur Taevaskoja after about 2 km-s.

Otteni can be visited also with car.

Other nice walk is in the east bank (the one with cliffs) of water reservoir. There's marked path, you can follow it for km or two and enjoy several views. You have to return on same way (you can also go around lake, but that's too long for a walk).

Very crowded and short walking trail
Aug 2016 • Couples
We went on a Sunday so this trail was very busy with families full of (noisy) children. The cycling trail seems long and nice, but the walking trail is rather short. The caves/rocks are very damaged with engraved words from not so good "artists". Could not see any animals or birds... too much noise.

Beautiful Walk
Jun 2016 • Couples
A calm and peaceful place to walk. Beautiful sandstone walls with the birds nesting in them. The River Ajha flows through and in places you can spot small fish and fresh water mussels. There is also a boat trip if you wish to go on it. Cover up if mosquitos like you as there are plenty about but don't let that deter you.

Great walk!
Aug 2015 • Couples
A very nice 3km walk - really beautiful.
The signs were not the best but enough landmarks to keep you aware of where you are and where to go.
Lots of information signs about the history and nature
