Great historical site

A very nice and hugely significant site. It's such a pity that the development around the site is so poor. Do visit!

Heard of this by word of mouth....and stumbled upon it hidden amongst the industrial units. Absolutely fantastic when you consider the age & history of the building. It is only a 'short' visit place - there really isn't much to 'do' other than marvel at it, but it's worth including in your itinerary if you are in the area. The... More

I don't think we would have found this without instructions from the staff at Upnor Castle, but so glad we did. A gem in the midst of an industrial estate, simply presented and free. Lots of information on its history. Glad that it has survived.

This building is hidden away in an industrial site, we actually thought we had taken a wrong turn! It is free to enter and has numerous information boards through the site showing photos of the building over the past 100 or so years, with further information going back to when the Knights Templar owned the manor. The best part for... More

Please go and visit this historic building. It's amazing given its age and the history behind it. So easy to get to, no parking or entry charges but please make a small donation so it will be available for all in years to come. Beautiful undercroft, very similar vaulted ceiling to that of the vault in nearby George Vaults. Definitely... More

don't be put off by the unattractive surroundings of an industrial estate, in fact this highlights the history of the building as it lost its former importance and became simply a shell to be re-used and occasionally altered over the centuries: this story is fairly well told by the information boards, but with almost 'no expense expended'! (it is free... More

We were on our way to Rochester castle, when we noticed an English Heritage sign to this place, so went to see what it was. It was quite interesting, and there was a display of pictures reflecting on the building past. Not much else to see though, and the room with most information in was very dark, I could not... More
