While in Edinburgh, we did not feel inspired by the Tartan shops there (too many, too touristy, too fake…) and we had kind of given up. We are so glad we stopped at The Islay Woolen Mill, on our way to Port Askaig (near Bridgend)....More

We visited the Islay woollen mill based purely on seeing it on a map, and having been disappointed by other "woollen mills" we didn't have any great expectations. So we were surprised and delighted when a gentleman, who turned out to be the owner, asked...More

This was a very popular visit with our friends and we had a very interesting talk from the owner. The relationship between the mill and the movies is fascinating. The machine noise is loud but it adds to the authenticity of the mill workings.A great visit.

We enjoyed our tour of the Islay Woollen Mill very much, especially the chance to see the antique looms in action. What a beautiful selection of woollen goods, too! Definitely worth a visit if you are on Islay. Thank you for your warm hospitality, Gordon!

Mr Covell and his wife Sheila know how to make people feel welcome. The mill is living history in itself and on the other hand keeps producing top products that are appreciated and sold on a world scale. Every time I go to Islay this...More
