An amazing site.
May 2021
The staff and guides are very friendly and speak English. The descent into the grotto is by a circular lift and the grotto is amazing. The outside setting is very nice and very pleasant to have a coffee in the small elevated patio.

Profit before safety
Aug 2020 • Family
This is not safe. Virtually no attempt by management to enforce any social distancing, eg by making tour groups smaller, spacing them out so you don't have to pass others in tight corridors. If you fancy being in very close proximity to a large number of strangers in an enclosed space at perfect temperature for viruses, definitely go. If not, give it a miss.

Measures regarding covid 19 are non excisting
Jul 2020
Very nice and a must see but the measures regarding Covid 19 are non excisting. Too much people are allowed in a group to enter the cave so people are forced to stand way too close to each other. To then get the message to stand a bit closer and to put all the children together, in front of the adults, is beyond imagination. There is no control on the way visitors respect the rules while in the cave. So you are forced to stand very close to people wearing no mask or wearing it in an inappropriate way. While going out of the cave, the next group was already entering, so both groups had to cross each other in a very small path.
People are getting sick and are dying from a terrible contagious disease. The visit made me see that a very large group of people still does not realise how bad the situation is. And that's a shame.

Foreigners not welcome?
Oct 2019 • Family
I am sure would be great if you were french but even the perfect English speaking guide barely uttered a word in English.
A real shame as he had a lot to say but in true French Tourism style non-french speakers are ignored and ripped off. It cost almost €70 for a family of four for practically no information - not even safety announcements! We really felt excluded and ripped off. Shame as could have been great but turned out to be an expensive tour into an impressive dark cave.

Different Cave
Sep 2019
We were a mixed group of those that had been to other caves in area and "cave novices". This was different from others and was very interesting and not too crowded. Personally i wouldn't pay the extra for the gondola descent but each to their own. Our group of 5 purchased just 2 audio guides between us (€0.90 each) as we thought it a cheek to charge for translation so we had a running commentary in English from those with the guides whilst the french guide prattled on - clearly not everything is translated unless there are 50 french words for every English one!
the tour lasts about 45 minutes and is worth doing but if you want to see paintings then this is not the place for you

Very well done

It was amusing to try and generate enough electric power for our visit using the entrance
Bikes...we failed. The audio guide in several languages is good and the experience a good one, bit slippy and you have to duck in one passage. Glad we did not pay nearly double for the ride down in the gondola as the walk in tunnel was not far. You have to admire the early explorers down there. We had an ice cream too which was pretty expensive so might be best avoided.

It’s just a hole
Aug 2019 • Family
Of all the caves we have visited on France, this one really is just a big hole in the ground. If you haven’t seen a stalagmite then it may be worth visiting. Not much to see for children. You are better off letting the children have an extra day by the pool.

Fabulous

This was our second visit and the first via the gondola. Really recommended this experience. You can reserve on line which avoids a potential 1-2 hour wait.

Huge cavern. Great light show
Aug 2019
A massive underground space with impressive formations. You experience two different sound and light shows, one as you enter and then half way round. The path has quite a few steps and there are some tight places to get through where you have to bend over.

The Cristal Cathedral, an amazing chasm!!
Jul 2019 • Family
My wife is claustrophobic so we do not often visit caves or cramped places. In case of Le Gouffre de Proumeysacc the concierge at our hotel reassured us that this place is so large that she would feel comfortable enough.
Once there I choose the "Classic tour" as opposed to the "Nacelle" tour. The difference between the two tours is that in classic tour the entrance is done by a tunnel excavated in roc up to reaching the Gouffre, the "Nacelle" tour uses the original hole at the top of the chasm from where a sort of elevator is lowered down suspended by cables. This chasm or cave is huge. It is 150 feet tall and present unbelievable limestone formations. The music and lighting enhance the breathtaking experience. Visitors brought through the tunnel as well as those who arrived in the Nacelle are taken to the very bottom of the Gouffre from where they can appreciate the formations on the wall and watch a short video about the place. No matter the weather outside (chilling cold or baking hot) the temperature inside is 14C. That is a place you should not miss if you are in the Dordogne region in France. Photos of this site are nor allowed.
