Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The water was extremely rough the day we went; seemed like the boat was going straight up and down the swells. So many people getting ill and the crew handled it so well. Everyone was so friendly and we never felt unsafe. We also love that it is a family owned/run business. And we could easily walk to the dock from our Airbnb. I highly recommend using anti sea sickness meds/bands if you are going out to the Aran Islands.

The boat cut the engine shortly before arriving to Inis Oírr and we drifted waiting for about 15-20 minutes. What really dampened my trip was, during this time, coincidentally the quietest time on board, a crew member launched into a bigoted tirade on migrants, the disabled, and transgender people.

*Tripadvisor will not allow me to quote his words verbatim as they contain profanity.*

As an example, he referred to disabled people as "fakers" who need to "get up off their arses," transgender people were "crazy," "s***", and "b*ll*cks," who are "bleeding the NHS dry" and, disturbingly, "someone needs to do something about them because this can't stand."

I don't care about his personal beliefs, but it's excessively rude to speak like this in front of passengers, many of which at any time might fall into these groups. I would like to know if the ferry company is comfortable taking money from these groups, or would the Doolin Ferry company prefer they not board their boats at all? I would like to know more about the company's discrimination policies.

Fortunately, my time elsewhere in Ireland proves that such petulant cruelty will die out soon enough! In the meantime, I suggest any would-be customer find entertainment elsewhere. The boats are not accessible for the disabled and there are no covid precautions in place anymore, so with the seats being very close together, I wouldn't recommend it for immunocompromised passengers.

The team handled changes easily and quickly and gave us some good tips. The onboard crews were cheerful and had some personality and were happy to answer questions. The boats were clean and appeared to be well maintained.

We took the Cliffs of Moher Cruise from Doolin Pier, there's loads of parking at the pier and you can park quite close to where the ferry pulls up.
We boarded the ferry and found good seats on the bottom deck looking out over the water. The ferry was completely full that day. The commentator told us all about the cliffs and the history of the towers, etc. It was really good to see the Cliffs from the water and we were speaking to some other tourists who also said it was better than actually walking on the Cliffs, as you can’t see them from up there – makes sense! The cruise took about an hour and we really enjoyed it and would recommend it.

What a great way to see the cliffs! Lots of parking. Boat ride was pretty smooth. It was quick, but very enjoyable.

My husband & I did the Aran Island/Cliffs of Moher daytrip at the end of September. There were marine warnings the day we had booked. I get motion sickness, so I was worried about the ferry trip from Doolin to Inisheer, and the ride to the Cliffs, but it was a wonderful trip. I did take Bonine, and used the Sense Relief app on my I-watch for precaution! There were white caps, and at least 6 footers, but the ferry ride out to Inisheer was speedy , 15-20 minutes, and doable. It was windy, partly sunny and around 58-62 degrees onshore. I wore a winter hat and a raincoat with a hood and felt comfortable outdoors with the ocean spray. There is indoor seating available too. The ferry was clean, and well maintained. Boarding was fast and efficient. It was a trip I contemplated not taking for fear of getting seasick, but so glad I did. Inisheer was beautiful! And I did not get seasick!

Once at the cliffs, the ferry slows down and gives an interesting narrative of the cliffs. Lots of time for pictures and smooth enough to go up top for better viewing.
Do be aware of the wind/wave conditions. If you're prone to sea sickness, sit at the back near an open doorway. It will be lees rough and the air flow will help.

The ferry to the island was fine but we paid extra to add on the views of the Cliffs for the return and it was WAY too crowded and impossible to get good photos unless you were sitting in the right spot. We were sitting in the middle and could not see anything and people were crammed on the edges. It was not worth the extra money. Why not sell assigned seats? Or don't oversell seats so that everyone on board can sit on the edge rather than the middle?

On advice of a local we decided to take the boat tour to get the best view of the cliffs.

Plenty of room on the boat and good viewing from both sides. No issue getting booked on quite late in the day but always worth booking ahead during busy times.

The weather was reasonable when we went out but still quite a swell and certainly need to have your sea legs on during the trip.
The views of the cliffs are awesome.

The commentary is a little hard to hear at times and is obviously recorded but you can ask the staff questions if you wish.

Definitely worth including on your trip
