There are grander chateaux to visit in the Dordogne but this gem is presented a lot better than many others. No audio guide, but at the gate you will be offered a sheet with a translation of enough of the panels in French to make this a voyage of discovery. Not a lot of visitors on the Sunday afternoon that... More

We rode our bikes up a steep hill to be greeted by the sight of the chateau perched on the hilltop. There weren't many people there, but on entering found that it dramatically exceeded our expectations. The tour is self guided (with good English translations) and the rooms were all beautifully decked out with appropriate antique furniture. We have not... More

This beautifully positioned Chateau, on rolling ground overlooking the Dordogne above the viullage of Sainte Mondane, offers strength in its thick stone and double encircling walls but it also offers charm and comfort in its impeccably furnished rooms with elegant period furniture. The chateau car park is free and offers shaded picnic tables. there are numerous walks around the village,... More

Perhaps this Château does not have the grandeur of some of it's more famous neighbours however it is a delight and the display rooms are very well presented. Will recommend a visit to any friends visiting Perigord Noir.

We had an early start and made a 9km detour on our cycles to visit this château and we weren't disappointed. It's only open for two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon so check the times. There were only 4 or 5 cars in the car park and we saw a few people as we were... More

There is no guide, but detailed explanations in each room. I understand you could have guides in other languages too. The site is beautifully kept and views would have been fantastic had it not been raining! The furnishings inside are really interesting and organised according to period. We loved the curiosity cabinet with a mummified mermaid, among other things... Furthermore,... More

Like most chateaux, you cannot take pictures inside, but the outside views are spectacular. Inside are some beautifully restored rooms full of weaponry, artefacts etc, the chapel is beautiful. The kitchen is particularly interesting. Unfortunately they don't have a cafe, as it would have been nice to enjoy a meal there.

I'm sure the chateau is wonderful but what we don't like is the hours/service. We rode on our bikes up a huge hill to get to the chateau. We locked up our bikes and at 12:25 p.m. walked toward the gates only to have the gate person close it in front of us. The chateau was closed from 12:30 p.m.... More

One of the nicer castles we visited. Very nicely furnished. Also very beautiful construction overall. Lovely grounds.
