- Susan MEnglewood, Florida22 contributionsHighly Recommend Killary Sheep Farm!!!Do not miss the opportunity to visit the Killary Sheep Farm! Tom is wonderful in introducing you to his life's work with the sheep and Holly, who is the most amazing dog. Got to hold and feed some three week old lambs (made my day!!!!) Also got to try my hand at shearing!! Highly recommend!!!Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 May 2023
- Becky P12 contributionsA fun learning experienceWe learned an immense amount about sheep, border collies, and peat bogs. I enjoyed helping to shear a sheep, bottle-feeding a sheep, and wat ching bog be cut. I was surprised that when someone stands on peat bog and jumps I could feel the earth move 12 feet away. It would be a mistake to miss this stop.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 10 June 2023
- Katie E11 contributionsHighlight of our trip!Killary Sheep Farm was one of the highlights of our 5 day trip to Inishbofin and Connemara! The lads providing the demonstrations were extremely knowledgeable and friendly and answered all of my questions (I had loads!) and were great hosts. The sheep dog demonstration was incredible; honestly, one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen! We also got to bottle feed lambs, and take part in sheep shearing. There’s no walking required and it would be wheelchair accessible, so definitely recommend this for young and old alike! Also, the view is absolutely stunning.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 July 2023
- Brian H18 contributionsFantastic Farm ExperienceTom was friendly, professional and welcoming at all times. He was more than happy to answer all of our questions and give us an insight into a working farm. The farm experience was absolutely wonderful. Over the course of the morning Tom was able to show us a sheepdog, demonstration as well as allowing us to feed the lambs and experience shearing their coats. The farm itself is situated over-looming the beautiful and majestic Killary fjord, which is worth a visit in Highly recommended!Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 August 2023

- Alison M11 contributionsNot my experience…Sorry to say I left a little disappointed. There was a lot of activities described on the website that didn’t occur on our “tour”. We saw the sheepdog demo and that was it. Didn’t see any shearing, didn’t enter the bar , and didn’t get a chance to get close to any sheep. No lambs. Just stood in one spot to watch the demo and then left :( the farm is beautiful of course but was looking for something more immersive as described on the website tour description.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 5 September 2023
- Diane P11 contributionsDo it!Recently visited Galway for a couple of days and decided to drive out to the Connemara to take in the Irish countryside. While planning what to see in the area, I stumbled across the Kilary Sheep Farm on internet searches. We had a rental car and the drive was only about an hour and half from Galway, so I decided it would be a fun afternoon. The farm is on the way to Kylemore Abbey, which is another lovely attraction in the area.....so we put the 2 together on our itinerary. So glad we did! The drive is splendid...not necessarily easy for those of us from the States that drive on the other side of the road, but well worth it. Take your time and you will see some of the most beautiful parts of Ireland. Upon arrival, we were greeted by name by our host and the owner, Tom. What a lovely man who loves what he does! He and his dog, Prince, really put on a show. Amazing to see to see the dedication and enthusiasm of both. The sheep are fun to watch, too. We all agree that this was a highlight of our time in Ireland!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 September 2023
- Ronald B21 contributionsA great local experience in ConnemaraWe saw this experience on Trip Advisor and decided to book it. Tom, the owner of a large sheep farm along the rocky coastline overlooking the Killary Fijord. Tom and one of his herding dogs gave a great demonstration of how dogs are used to herd sheep. It was incredibly interesting and well worth the time and money. The beautiful scenery was a great addition to this experience.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 September 2023
- Kelly CMinneapolis, Minnesota1 contributionWhat a fantastic experience!Tom and his terrifically smart pup Prince warmed our hearts with a sheep dog demonstration that blew us away, followed by a lovely conversation over coffee and biscuits in the famine house. We HIGHLY recommend this experience - Tom's land is a beautiful testimony to his strong family ties to this area in Connemara and his dedication to it and his animals made a huge impression on us. Amazing family-friendly experience watching the art of rounding up the sheep using border collies, expertly trained by the farmer. Everyone was invited to sheer the sheep, and the farmer shared lots of interesting facts and tidbits. Kids loved getting to bottle feed the lambs at the end. Wonderful, authentic Irish experience, in gorgeous Connemara - sweeping views of the mountains & valleys and the lakes will take your breath away. Highly recommend!

I'm not sure if there is a way to get all the way there on public transport - you can either drive from Dublin, or take the train to Galway, then rent a car and drive up from there (I don't recall exactly how far a drive it is from Galway, but I'd estimate less than an hour)

My wife is an avid fiber and yarn enthusiast, sheep and wool varieties, shearing, cleaning, carding, spinning, dyeing, knitting, etc. can you tell me if your farm would offer her interesting experiences in these areas. If not, could you recommend a place that would.
Hello, it very much depends upon the time of the year as to what types of activities they will do at Killary Sheep Farm. If your wife likes Spinning, drive in to nearby Letterbrickaun, Go To the Sheep and Wool Museum, there a guide shows how Traditional Spinning is done on 3 or 4 Spinning Machines, here you can have a go spinning, albeit a sample taster of spinning! I can really recommend it. Killary Sheep Farm gave us an excellent Sheep and Dog Show!!! Check out my review for Killary Sheep Farm! Best Wishes, Tony

My mother and I would like to visit we will be in Ireland the last week of September. My mother is 70 and is weakened by cancer. She has no difficulty walking but tires quickly. How much walking is involved? During demonstrations are there any chairs available? Also, I keep reading about lambs, but I assume they are there only in the spring. True?
