About
Welcome to 'Voices of St. Mary's Collegiate Church'. We hope you will enjoy exploring our church and discover more about its story in our interactive exhibition when you come to visit! Since its foundation in 1220, St. Mary's Collegiate Church has been at the heart of the town of Youghal. For over 800 years, the stone walls and wooden roof have provided sanctuary and solace through times of war and famine, as well as a calm presence in times of prosperity and peace. There is so much to discover her and as you look around you will see where parts of the church have been altered over the centuries. Despite these changes, the craftsmen who constructed the building in the 13th century would recognise it today. Christian worship continues to this day and Church of Ireland services are regularly held here. The church came into the care of Cork County Council in 2005 and now hosts a wide range of community events and performances, as well as welcoming visitors from all over the world!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A gorgeous church which is well set up for tourists with ample information (even when the reception desk is closed), music piped in, much to read. We spent nearly two hours there. Handicapped accessible - you can drive on the encircling gravel path right to the door, but not all the chapels inside have ramps.

St. Mary's Collegiate Church was built in Youghal in 1220. It has been very well kept and is still used for Church services but also for concerts. There is much to look at here including the beautiful East Window, the oak scissors truss roof`which had been covered by a ceiling but is now revealed in all its glory. The acoustic jars which are high up in the walls. The jars are on their sides. There is the Boyle Chapel, made for Richard Boyle, first earl of Cork who died in 1643. These are just some of the treasures to discover. Well worth a visit.

What a fantastic experience! I brought my 5th class here and they had a brilliant time. The audio tour had every child completely engaged. The guide was dressed in a fabulous costume and had the children's attention from the first minute. The tour is so unique and the information is relayed as if you're listening to a conversation which makes it so much more relatable and enjoyable. We will be back and will be recommending!

A wonderful morning spent in St. Mary's Collegiate Church this morning with our tour guide Wayne. This is a hidden gem in Youghal, and is well worth a visit. The wonderful architecture and history of the building along with and interactive experience is suitable for all the family. Easy to access and navigate, a lovely way to spend a few hours in the town of Youghal, our Ladies group thoroughly enjoyed it.

We went in to the Church this morning for a guided tour as a Ladies Group and we had such a lovely experience. The Church is beautiful with so much history. Wayne, our guide was absolutely fantastic, full of knowledge, friendly and so patient with the group. There was no rushing around and we got to soak up the wonderful atmosphere. We will definitely be back and will be recommending the guided tour to all! Thanks so much :)

When I went in, I wasn't really in the mood for the whole touristy thing, but I got talking to the receptionist (Angelica?) and since I didn't want to do the audio tour, she recommended the "treasure hunt" map. It was perfect for me, because it made me look at different features of the church that I might have overlooked, if I had just gone on my own exploration. I will have to come back and do the audio guided tour! Thanks to Angelica for taking the time to chat!

Fascinating church, astonishing survival of the building (despite all the fighting around and in the town over the centuries). Well restored. Very good audio guide which is suitable for children. Can be taken fast or slow as the mood dictates.
