Wonderful old town where old protective walls still stand. Definitely worth the time to visit and see the walls and let your imagination run wild. Well worth the time to visit.

The walls stretch almost around the town and they a re a landmark of a fortified town where i the infamous Cromwell wintered his plundering and raving army.

The walk along the medieval town walls has been improved enormously over the last few years. One gets a great feeling of history walking over where the cannons used to point out over the town (any likely serious attack coming from the seaward aspect) It would be great if they could extend this further.

Dating from 1250, they are the second longest surviving stretch of Town Walls in Ireland – the other being at the opposite end of the country in Derry! The first written record dates from 1275 when King Edward I granted a charter for their repair and extension and a tax was levied to pay for their building.

The old Town Walls which protected the town of Youghal for hundreds of years from all kinds of invaders are still standing. This is a unique sight as they are positioned on a hill above the town and when you walk along them you can visualise both those inside trying to defend and those outside trying to break in. The... Stopped in Youghal to see the Medieval Walls around the town. The walls are awesome. It was amazing to climb and walk along the walls and read the history. Glad we made it here to see this.
