Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

'Please look after these walls before its too late.
The Town Walls are in need of a lot of TLC. Appparently the person in charge doesn't think that clearing the huge stinking piles of garden rubbish dumped from nearby residents is worth shifting so the appearance of the Historic Listed walls is really bad. The rusty scaffolding and fencing with trees growing inside is also not a credit to the caretaker of the walls. The access gates through the Sally Walls were closed for 3 years until the person in charge was challenged about the decision to keep them closed. The steps up to the walls are in urgent need of repair at the bottom from Ashe Street and they also need cleaning because when wet the green moss makes them dangerous. Signposting to the walls is also missing at the top of the steps. Apart from that, they are pretty impressive but in parts in danger of collapse because of all the Russian Vine which has been allowed to climb over the wall unchecked.

Glad I was in a car, because the walls are on the highest point in Youghal. It's a must when in Youghal and it's off the beaten track. There was a board with information and the walls stretch for 1 km. Lovely to see. Not my first time in Youghal, but the first time in this part of Youghal.

We stopped in Youghal, and were pleasantly surprised at all the history we found. It is a lovely seaside town with medieval history. We enjoyed this incredible 13th century wall, along with the clock gate, church, gardens, and views of the ocean. It is quite a hike up many, many steep steps, but worth it.

This is a must for visitors. I happen to love history, and these town walls are from the twelfth century! In boom times, these walls served a security purpose, but they also provided a means of collecting taxes - on the goods that passed through the wall. But the real reason to make it a priority are .... the views! The walls are high up on the hillside, and you can see why this was one of the great Irish ports going back centuries. You can see the harbor, and the river and the town from this vista point. The town itself is busy and lined with stores on both sides of Main Street, so you will have no idea of the grandeur unless you get up higher. There is parking above the walls, so make the climb in a car if you can. There are repairs going on - but be clever and you can find the parking lot. After the walls, head for the Heritage Visitor's Center on the harbor. Then walk through town from there.

It is a bit of a hike to get up to the walls (especially on a hot day!), but well worth it. The views are great, and it is fascinating to see the old city walls. At one point, you can walk on top of the walls themselves.

These amazing walls are still standing after all this time. Following the heritage trail we accessed the walls via the Raleigh Quarter. From Drews tower there are excellent photos to be had. You can walk through to the outside of the city walls via sally port and appreciate the size of the walls from the other side.

Walking the medieval walls of Youghal not only gives you amazing vistas of the town, the Blackwater River and the Atlantic, but it sends you back in time. As you stroll the walls, you can't help but imagine guards and lookouts, pacing and watching to protect Youghal from maritime invasions....very cool, indeed.

Its a place in history, not a lot of changes over the years, still old world in places. Footpaths narrow make it difficult in places for those with disabilities. Also has a nice seafront with plenty of seats.

Wonderful old town where old protective walls still stand.

Definitely worth the time to visit and see the walls and let your imagination run wild.

Well worth the time to visit.
