i live near cavan and go to the cathedral about once or twice yearly. The solitude and peace! I love architecture and the building is stunning. Stained glass, artwork and when it comes to christmas; a have to go to see!

Lovely art work, stained glass, mosaic tile work. A bit of calm in a county town. We have enjoyed Christmas concerts here but it is worth a visit at any time.

By chance we stopped in Cavan - wonderful Cathedral
Sep 2018 • Friends
Found this hidden gem in Cavan, it is quite striking to find such an impressive structure in this town. We set aside some time to explore it and we were glad we di.
This Cathedral was finished during the war in 1942, which is a wonder in itself and the interior is actually quite impressive. The artistic stained glass panels were of particular interest.
Well worth a visit if you are travelling to or through Cavan

Beautiful Architecture
Dec 2017 • Friends
The Cathedral of St. Patrick and St. Felim is a beautiful building. The stain glasses windows are worth visiting. The Cathedral is set in lovely grounds and for anyone having a wedding or any religious occassion it makes for fabulous photos.
Next Wednesday 13th December is the yearly concert at 8pm. This concert gets better and better every year. All the school choirs in Cavan,Cathedral choir and other local choirs and orchasters plus the Priests combine to make this an occassion that really makes Christmas. Donations is all that is asked for whereas in reality to attend a concert of this calerber in Dublin would cost a small fortune.

A hidden gem of Harry Clarke Studio windows
Oct 2017 • Solo
This is a relatively recently built Cathedral, having been completed in 1942.
The workmanship throughout is magnificent.
Things to look for:
The colonnade to the nave which terminates not with the altar, but with a strong crossing which forms a form of rood screen.
Leaded glass windows by Harry Clarke Studios. All of the nave windows are by the studios. They are very detailed as can be seen in the attached photographs.
However, the composition does not have a sufficiently strong main theme. Well worth seeing all the same.
There are also good leaded windows by George Collie.
The spire over the front portico is modelled on the spire of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London of 1722-26 by James Gibbs.

Visit to Cavan Cathedral
Dec 2016
Myself and a group of students visited the Cathedral last December. What a magnificent building both inside and out. The grounds are well manicured the architecture and detail are a photographers dream. We spent a few hours studying every detail. Not for everyone but for our group it was very interesting
