A fabulous location, steeped in history. Artist or not - go! Lots to see and do. Wonderful location and fabulous to interact with visiting students from around the world. The tower is a great treat too! Definitely worth a visit.

A plesant place to spend a hour or two. A college with an appealing mission and a comfortable cafe! Adjoining medieval tower adds to the allure.

Terrific, vibrant gallery set alongside Newtown Castle just outside of Ballyvaughan town, showing the art of its talented, international student body who not only don't mind your strolling through their studio space but welcome your interest in their work. Tower itself worth the trip.

Worth a stop to experience this lovely gallery and carefully restored castle tower. It will give you an excellent sense of the environment and fortified homes of the time.

Set in a beautiful setting, right next to Newtown Castle, BCA offers a terrific program to undergrads, MFA candidates and visiting artists. Terrific staff, comfortable lodging for students, extraordinary and inspiring location, encouraging and inspiring curriculum - something all art students should check out !

Way back in 1995 when Burren College of Art was just starting out, I did a summer undergrad program here, and it was fabulous. I did photography mainly with a bit of sculpture and also got to learn about the history of the area from the great Sean White before he passed. A summer spent walking, climbing, photographing, working in one of the best darkrooms I have ever been in, digging in the bog, sculpting with the peat we dug - it was one of the greatest artistic endeavors I had ever experienced. Since then, I have made it a point on every trip to stop by and see the latest exhibit, say hello to Mary and Michael, maybe climb Black Head or just the steps of Newtown Castle to look out over the Burren to Galway Bay. I love this place and I love the people of the village who took us in and made us feel welcome and at home. I always recommend a visit here. Sadly when I tried to bring my hubby this time to see the castle and grounds the drive in was still flooded too deep from the major storm the week before for our little hired car, and I had to just point at it through the windscreen. Next time though, for sure.

Just up the road from our favorite Irish B&B, Cappabhaile House, and located on the sight of an old castle, Burren College is ridiculously beautiful, with a good cafe, history galore, and brilliant young artists. There are also many local hiking trails that intersect at the back of the college. This is a magical place, close to Ballyvaughan, at the bottom of Corkscrew Hill, and centrally located in the area that poets John O'Donohue and David Whyte have written about so movingly.

Our son had attended this College for 3 months years ago so we had to stop by. Very small art college. Fun to walk around and see the students work. We saw them preparing/hanging work for a show the next day.
