Best Pub in Ireland
Dec 2019 • Friends
O’Louclainns, formally known as McNeils is a very authentic Irish pub, the heart and soul of Ballyvaughan.
Have been coming to Ballyvaughan for years and this pub serves the best Guinness in Ireland, very friendly, welcoming family and atmosphere is great as not a single soul will ever be found on a phone. All are chatting and enjoying each other’s company while they provide any drink you would like. Bar staff are extremely experienced with history and knowledge of each drink.
Yet it is tight pub, it’s really does have the true West of Ireland Irish feeling ☘️
It is hands down the best pub in Ballyvaughan if not in Clare.

Fabulous Pub and Marvelous Whiskey
Aug 2019
I visited O'Loclainn's Pub while spending 1 night in lovely Ballyvaughan after 4 days hiking the Burren Way. I love this pub! Margaret and her daughter are friendly and knowledgeable about the whiskeys they sell. Method and Madness, Midleton, and Red Spot were some of the superb whiskeys I tried. When ordering a whiskey, Margaret will bring the bottle over and give you a brief, detailed description of it. The bar is small, cozy, and attractive. I spent a few hours in there, and at first, it was just me and 2 other people. Eventually other people arrived and then it quickly became busy. The bar has a good atmosphere: mix of tourists and locals. They sell a cool T-shirt and socks! I can't recommend this place enough!

Walking holiday
We came across this pub while on a walking holiday. I loved it and it has an old world atmosphere, no T.V. and very quaint. Can't wait to return.

A must see
The proprietor is the most endearing woman. She is extremely knowledgeable about whiskey and will give you a thorough explanation and history regarding whatever you may be looking for. We tried a sampler based on some questions my husband had and learned a great deal. Fun, welcoming, and educational.

Lovely atmosphere and a great selection of whiskey.
We spent a lovely few hours here last night. The landlady invited the men behind the bar to investigate the whiskey selection...which was superb. The Guinness was creamy and unfortunately very "moreish" 😂
We sampled some fabulous whiskey from their selection and enjoyed the genuine olde worlde atmosphere. We'll be back.

What a friendly little spot. Margaret is just some host. Fantastic whiskey selection, even Japanese ones. We thoroughly enjoyed spending a while there. Other pubs could learn a lot her when it comes to making you feel special.

Whiskey Temple
O'Loclainn's has a great collection of Irish whiskey. It has many other whiskeys available, but why bother since you are in Ireland? The servers are full of humor and can provide tasting hints for whiskeys you have not tried. They have beer available if for some reason you don't want a malt tasting. I have heard rumors that food is available but in my opinion, food would only interfere with the whiskey tasting.
