Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very professional and personable! Completed a 2 day mountain assessment course and found Ambrose highly skilled in all things mountain based... but to keep the group's motivations and interests high overs 11hrs in the rain is a unique skill. Very enjoyable , I'd recommend Ambrose for any of his courses which cater for all levels of hiking enthusiast.

I had a great time with Ambrose. It was my first time out on the rocks. Ambrose took enough time to explain everything to me in detail. The first routes in Dalkey Quarry were easy to get a sense for the rocks and my climbing abilities. On the second day we did some more challenging routes in the beautiful Glendalough, which was a lot of fun! I felt safe at all times. Ambrose is also very accommodating and fun. We had two really wonderful days! Would recommend it to anyone.

I spent a weekend on the mountains with HikeandClimb. I can highly recommend the mountain skills course, the entire process from start to finish was great. The communication before the event was excellent.

The course itself was super, I learned exactly the skills I wanted, in a relaxed, hands on active learning format. The group sizes are small, meaning there is ample time for everyone to ask questions.

Sign up, you won't regret it. Super way to spend a weekend in a beautiful part of Ireland.

My Mountain Skill-1 training course with Ambrose was both very enjoyable and rewarding.
His easy going, interactive and fun tuition style inspired great confidence among the students attending our course.
With the skill set acquired, I’m now much more confident heading out into the great outdoors on more adventurous hikes:-)
I’d highly recommend Ambrose for your outdoor adventure skills training and I’m planning to return to attend his Mountain Skills-2 course at the next suitable date.

Ambrose was our instructor for the beginners day course in climbing. He made us feel extremely safe throughout the day. His extensive knowledge and experience was clearly evident in his teaching. The day was really enjoyable and can't wait to go back. After completing the day he even sent further information with a quick recap of what we learned. A truly humble genuine person.I would highly recommend. 😊

On behalf of UCD Mountaineering Club, a massive thanks to Ambrose! We did two Mountain Skills 2 courses and two Learn to Lead courses with him, both of which were incredible. The courses were not only very educational, but also very fun. Ambrose really helped upskill members within our club. He was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, as well as was very willing to answer any questions we had! We would highly recommend him as an instructor.

I was out with Ambrose for my mountain skills assessment 21-22nd April. It was a fantastic experience, fully professional and high well organised in advance and during the assessment. Ambrose provided a friendly, welcoming yet professional environment throughout. Thoroughly enjoyable and I couldn't recommend highly enough.

Had an amazing time with Ambrose.
Not what one would expect from a few training days.

First of all, Ambrose has come very recommended, and has a reputation that supersedes his presence withing the mountaineering and climbing community in Ireland. The man is walking legend, both in knowledge and experience.

So I was ready for such. A person who has his stuff down to a level of orthodoxy. Not that I particularly mind such a level of refinement, but I was ready for that.

What I was met with was a pleasantly different character. Professional, but warm, welcoming, and, above all else, curious. Orientated more on an underlying understanding of what 'safety' and 'being safe' while being out in the great outdoors actually means and how, using various techniques and ways of approach, is more beneficial, rather than just being shown how and what to do.

Now I did the course which requires prior experience, so I'm aware that the conversation is, more than less, nuanced. But I have left after the three days of my rock climbing instructor training on to my consolidation period with more goals than questions. Feeling ready to take on the challenge not only to commit to fulfilling the requirements, but to actually seek out varied experiences and a deeper understanding of climbing itself.
