Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ambrose ran my Mountain Skills Assessment

He was really knowledgeable, kind and fair throughout.

I’d highly recommend him for all courses and assessments.

Did a half day 1on1 rock-climbing session with Ambrose as prep (and a refresher) for a week of climbing in the Alps. My skills were rusty and Ambrose was patient, calm and explained everything carefully so that I could follow and remember. His years of experience also came though in all the great tips and advice he passed on.

He's also instantly trustworthy which is pretty critical in a new belay partner and I felt safe at all times, which allowed me to only worry about my side of things.

We did some rock-climbing in climbing shoes, big mountaineering boots and with or without a rucksack, all in an effort to replicate alpine conditions and he was unfailingly encouraging!

The morning was a huge success and great fun, and my confidence has been give a huge boost. I feel that I can now go over to the Alps and enjoy every moment.

I highly recommend Ambrose as an instructor for anyone looking to get into rock-climbing or refresh / advance your skills, and I'm looking forward to joining him on another adventure soon!!

I had such an incredible climbing experience with Ambrose!! He was professional, encouraging, valued safety above all else, had a good intuition about when to take it easy on us and when to push us beyond our comfort zone. He had all the gear that we needed: helmet, harness, climbing shoes.

The Dart from Dublin city center to Dalkey took about 30 minutes or so. Then it was an easy 15 minute walk to the Quarry. There were many different climbing routes at the Quarry, and Ambrose was intimately familiar with all of them. Lots of seasoned climbers were enjoying themselves on the rocks and it was a really comfortable and beautiful environment to spend several hours.
If you are in Dublin and want to get into outdoor rock climbing, call Ambrose!

Very professional and personable! Completed a 2 day mountain assessment course and found Ambrose highly skilled in all things mountain based... but to keep the group's motivations and interests high overs 11hrs in the rain is a unique skill. Very enjoyable , I'd recommend Ambrose for any of his courses which cater for all levels of hiking enthusiast.

I had a great time with Ambrose. It was my first time out on the rocks. Ambrose took enough time to explain everything to me in detail. The first routes in Dalkey Quarry were easy to get a sense for the rocks and my climbing abilities. On the second day we did some more challenging routes in the beautiful Glendalough, which was a lot of fun! I felt safe at all times. Ambrose is also very accommodating and fun. We had two really wonderful days! Would recommend it to anyone.

I spent a weekend on the mountains with HikeandClimb. I can highly recommend the mountain skills course, the entire process from start to finish was great. The communication before the event was excellent.

The course itself was super, I learned exactly the skills I wanted, in a relaxed, hands on active learning format. The group sizes are small, meaning there is ample time for everyone to ask questions.

Sign up, you won't regret it. Super way to spend a weekend in a beautiful part of Ireland.

My Mountain Skill-1 training course with Ambrose was both very enjoyable and rewarding.
His easy going, interactive and fun tuition style inspired great confidence among the students attending our course.
With the skill set acquired, I’m now much more confident heading out into the great outdoors on more adventurous hikes:-)
I’d highly recommend Ambrose for your outdoor adventure skills training and I’m planning to return to attend his Mountain Skills-2 course at the next suitable date.
