Once in a lifetime Ireland experience - thanks to Gene O'Sullivan!
Apr 2018 • Family
Choosing Glengarriff Tours was invaluable. I can't emphasize enough the positive impact it had our our experience of this country.

My dad was planning a once in a lifetime trip for our family, and hired Gene to drive us around Ireland for 5 days. We had never traveled internationally before as a family, and our trip required very customized needs/requests as my dad wanted to show us places and things relating to our specific family's heritage.

Gene seamlessly incorporated all our wishes, while throwing in plenty of surprises and local flavor of his own.

Gene himself is a delight! His stories, clever quips and knowledge of the passing countryside and towns keep you entertained even on the longest stretches of road. Our group included five 20-somethings, and the fact that no one pulled out headphones at any point of the drive is a testament to the fact that we didn't want to miss a minute! With Gene, the joy really is in the journey. He quickly becomes a trusted travel companion and comfortable member of the group, whom we immediately missed when our time with him was complete.

Our trip began in Dublin and we stayed a night in Galway, Doolin, Killarney, and Kinsale - stopping at plenty of other towns and areas of interest along the way. We never felt rushed, as Gene was able to adapt if we wanted more time in a specific place. He constantly checked in on our needs and interests, and made adjustments along the way! It was a rare, truly personalized experience.

In each town, Gene had arranged everything. He had the perfect places to stay varying from adorable B&Bs to plush-yet-personal, small hotels. His restaurant and pub recommendations were outstanding, ensuring that even after he left us each evening, our experience continued to be bar none.

He has friends in practically every town, and spending time with locals at their various establishments was a major part of the fun!

In addition to the above, I strongly believe you simply will not have as good of a trip to Ireland if you try and drive yourself. Why?

a) The transportation - Gene's van is comfortable with plenty of space (we had 8 adults, not including Gene), with large windows and you're riding high up. This means, you can enjoyably see the lovely country and coastline as you're passing, and we got many beautiful photos out of the moving van as we traveled!

b) The dedicated driver - With Gene driving, you are worry free! And everyone gets to enjoy the trip. There's no decision-making on who is going to drive, and no one is staring at GoogleMaps trying to navigate. Again, this means you are free to enjoy the scenery the entire way. The Irish roads were confusing (the roundabouts!) and narrow at times, and having a trusted and knowledgable driver removed 100% of the stress. We never wasted time getting lost, and he was able to alter course at a moment's notice for a bathroom break, or whatever was required.

c) The wealth of knowledge - It truly makes a huge difference when someone who knows the country can point out the significance of what you're seeing. Having Gene to direct your attention along the way made each passing site and town much more meaningful and memorable.

My husband and I planned a short trip to London after Ireland - and we both agreed, no vacation is as much fun without Gene!

Additionally, we had Brian as our driver for the last day of the trip, and he was just as warm, patient, and flexible! Glengarriff Tours very clearly has the highest standards for their drivers, and that quality makes for an unforgettable trip.

We just finished a family trip of a lifetime with Gene showing us special parts of Western and Southern Ireland. My wife and I and our adult children and spouses (8 in all) toured from Dublin to Galway, to the Cliffs and Doolin, down to Killarney and Kinsale and finally back to Dublin by way of Cashel. It was a wonderful trip made special by Gene. I would highly recommend using Gene to show you Ireland. He is attentive to your needs, patient, able to make changes on the fly and incredibly knowledgeable. He seems to have friends and contacts everywhere and with his infectious humor and grace I can see why he gets the excellent rating he deserves.

We compared notes with a couple who took a larger bus tour and the experience just didn't compare. Using Gene and the personal touch is definitely the way to go.

Gene we can't Thank you enough,

Our 2018 Irish Shenanigans Spring Break with Gene O'Sullivan
Mar 2018 • Friends
Our group of 8 just returned from a very lovely 10-day trip around Ireland. Gene O’Sullivan of Glengarriff Tours was our driver and guide for four of these days and we were all missing him already the very next day after departing ways! I would recommend to anyone visiting Ireland to hire Glengarriff Tours and Gene O’Sullivan as it is so worth it.
Ireland was a departure from our typical annual beach vacation and no one from our group had been there before, so we decided a private guide/tour would be best for several reasons, including; to drive us safely, to not be on a set schedule and itinerary like that of a tour, and to have the chance to experience Ireland as a local - outside all the tourist spots. We had done day trips with hired drivers before in other European countries so we began searching across the web for something similar in Ireland. We came across several companies and posts that offered these services so we reached out to a few (Glengarriff Tours and Gene were mentioned in several of the posts). Gene responded to my inquiry in less than 24 hours which not only amazed me, but also set the tone going forward. After reviewing all the responses we received and doing some more research, our group all agreed on booking with Glengarriff Tours – several in the group also commented that they hoped Gene would be our guide, lucky us he was!
From our time of booking in September 2017 up to our departure from the states March 2018, both Maya and Gene were great in responding quickly to all our inquiries. We had tentatively decided on Kinsale, Killarney, Galway and Gene provided several great recommendations for accommodations in each location. Other than seeing Dingle and the Cliffs of Moher we left the itinerary to Gene to show us Ireland as he wished. All the sights, the history and information Gene shared, the “local” pubs and restaurants off the tourist path, and the craic along the way made our trip a once-in-a-lifetime memory. Gene took care of us all along the way - making sure we had what we needed, saw what we wanted to see, introducing us to many friends, and a few very special treats …
One in particular at a pub stop along our journey from Kinsale to Killarney , Gene’s friend whose family owned the oldest pub and mill in town came down to meet us. He was so generous inviting us into his home down the street to see pictures of the town and buildings from the Civil war time along with the bullet holes that remain in his family home yet today from the war. Another was Gene searching stores in towns for me for a specific Ireland soccer jersey that my son asked me to bring him home as a souvenir. From experiences like these to delicious Irish coffee in a castle to holding a lamb of our own, Gene really made our trip the best it could have been.
We hope to come back someday soon and will definitely be reaching out to Gene when we do. If you should be so lucky as to hire Gene know that he is an excellent driver in SNOW and be sure to ask him about Maureen O’Hara 😉

Gene O’Sullivan- the most hospitable host
Feb 2018 • Family
We had a wonderful 10 day tour with Gene from Glengarriff Tours. From the first contact to plan the trip to seeing us off at the Shannon airport, Gene provided incredible service, courteous care, humor and fun and of course, knowledgeable and safe touring.

We started by providing Gene a list of our interests during our visit and he made excellent suggestions to develop the perfect 10-day itinerary starting in Dublin and finishing in Shannon. We saw much of the country but didn’t feel hurried or exhausted.

His new van was very comfortable for all of us and the large amounts of luggage. He made restaurant reservations and accommodation arrangements for us at each of the 7 towns we stayed in. He always had maps and bottled water for us at hand in the van. While visiting Glengarriff, Gene and his lovely wife Maya warmly welcomed us to their home for a visit.

He was truly a pleasure to spend time with in his homeland of Ireland. We welcome Gene and Maya to visit us in the US so we can show them the same hospitality!

Our Ireland experience
Nov 2017 • Couples
There was 8 people in our group and we hired Gene O’Sullivan of Glengarriff tours to shuttle us around from Galway Bay down to the southern tip of Ireland. This was an awesome experience...Gene is a warm kind hearted gentleman that showed us a true taste of Ireland, from scenery to pubs for great food and great entertainment to restaurants and extra tips and treasures for shopping along the way. To sum up using Gene it was a fabulous time and would highly recommend him!! But make sure you get only Gene as he is the BEST, thanks again Gene and his lovely wife Maya from your Canadian friends

15 days touring Ireland with Gene at Glengarriff tours
Oct 2017 • Couples
Gene picked 4 of us up at the airport in Dublin and toured us around Ireland for 15 days. His charming personality and intimate knowledge of his country enhanced our tour and let us travel worry free. No hotel worries, no driving worries. We visited some of of his his favorite places which we never would have found on our own. He accommodated our special requests for sites to see in the southeastern part of Ireland which we had researched beforehand. We all agreed it was a very special trip and made even better with Gene as our guide.

Look no further......couldn't possibly have been better!!
Oct 2017 • Couples
Two couples from Canada just finished our dream vacation in Ireland. Communication with Gene to organize was seamless. Brian was our guide and we could not have asked for better. He was a true gentleman with a great sense of humour, extremely knowledgeable about the country, and a pleasure to travel with. By the end of the trip we all felt like we had made a new friend for life. Since we were travelling in the "off season" we decided to "wing it" with a general plan of where to go, but we made no reservations in advance. We know this put some extra pressure on Gene and Brian to find us accommodations last minute, but they handled it with ease and all our hotels were perfect .We had also mentioned in advance what our specific interests were and Brian nailed every one of them, and then some!
At the end we all agreed this was the best holiday any of us have experienced, ever!

My husband and I had already traveled to Ireland with our 6 children in 2011 and we each drove a small car with our kids and all the luggage. It was stressful to say the least.
This time we found Gene on Trip Advisor and was also skeptical of all the 100% reviews. However, from the minute I contacted Gene, he was honest, helpful and completely changed our itinerary and helped us book high quality hotels. His recommendations and daily itineraries were PERFECT and even though I have done all the planning for our 13 trips to Europe, he was BY FAR more knowledgeable than any of us on Ireland travel with a group of 8 adults. He had a spotless BRAND NEW large van when he picked us up in the Dublin airport at 5 am. He totally made our entire 11 day trip to Ireland with a group of 4 couples the trip of a lifetime!.
What are the chances that 8 adults traveling together can get along together and not have any travel issues? GENE!! We all had a very enjoyable and stress-free trip because of Gene and his attentiveness to our entire group. The poor guy had to help us load and re load 16 bags of luggage at each stop! We saw incredible musical talent because of all the people he knows in each small village ( Doolin, Dingle, Kinsale) He took us to out of the way and very interesting things to see which we would have never known about or aren't in guide books. We even invited him to visit us all in Iowa sometime with his delightful wife Maya.
There are not enough words to thank Gene for our incredible trip to Ireland and all his knowledge and assistance to make our trip the trip of a lifetime with dear friends. We got back last night and I wanted to immediately post our very favorable review about this incredible driver and guide Gene O'Sullivan of Glengarriff Tours!
