I was delighted to have time to pop in after visiting the castle opposite.
A lovely church, grand architecture and peaceful inside. Lovely crib scene and Christmas trees.

This place is worth a look for the gorgeous stained glass windows from the artist Harry Clarke. The luan art gallery is just across the street too.

Really imposing building, worth taking a look inside at the stained glass windows.
Obviously a place for quite contemplation but that’s about it.

If you a fan of the architecture of the buildings this is the one of them to look at. Right in city center spot by the river and Athlone Castle on other side of the road

Passed by but didn’t go inside. Very impressive from the outside. Wish I’d gone inside but this was a stop on the self-guided Connaught Walk so I continued on.

Called in while walking around Athlone on a dull Sunday afternoon, The church is lovely and very quiet , there were several people in there just sitting and contemplating, I lit a candle for my family and friends who have left us as I usually do when I visit a church

We stopped for a visit to the Church of Saints Peter and Paul. Beautiful, peaceful, totally serene. It is absolutely elegant in its simplicity. Where many churches are filled with Antiquities and statues the altar is noticeably absent of these items and in doing so brings out the beauty and elegance of the church.
You instantly feel at peace when you walk in and feel completely at ease when you walk out. I highly recommend a visit even if its for only 10 minutes. It is truly worth the visit.
All the best!
