Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Still perfection. Still delightful. Still as welcoming and accommodating as ever. You owe it to yourself to visit here, trust me.

Beautiful old style pub.
We’ve passed by it for many years.Always wondering was it as nice as it seemed from the outside. We were not disappointed. The Guinness was top notch,as in beautiful. We were served by a friendly young lad who works the weekends. He told us a bit about the pub and chatted away. The whole experience from the ambience, the pint to the service was second to none. Can’t wait to go there again.

Very well kept original traditional irish pub.
The owners are very friendly with a good knowledge of the history of the pub dating back the 1700's. Owners are very friendly and have a nice dog to keep you company.
Excellent value for money. Well worth a visit and a 5 star review.

Located on the side of the N55 road north from Athlone to Cavan this is a traditional pub that's over 200 years old and mentioned in Oliver Goldsmith's play from 1773 called "She Stoops To Conquer". The original building has been renovated over the years and the Inn was mentioned in a railway guide to Ireland of 1848; part of that renovation persists as the thatched part of the building where the bar is located.
The McCormack family have run this pub for nearly a century. Links with the past are found in the fireplace stones from the Modest Mansion (Lissoy Parsonage) of Oliver Goldsmith fame and a millstone at the entrance. This is an authentic throwback to the old Ireland and therein lies much of its charm. The pub still provides light food, teas and coffees in addition to the usual pubfare, and drinks are taken out front during sunny weather. The pub has a well-earned reputation for its traditional music sessions and warm atmosphere and the staff was most helpful.

I stopped by The Three Jolly Pigeons because I have a picture of my Great Aunt standing in front of it that was taken in 1926. It was not open but the owner pulled up while I was there. He had two people with him that he had business with but he unlocked the place and let me wait inside while he dealt with his two guest. At one point he left me me in the pub alone while he ran his guest into town.
When he returned he spent an hour helping me with my family research and giving me the history of the pub.
He also took a picture of me standing on the same spot that my Great Aunt stood.
What a great Irish thing to do !

I always drive past on my way back to the airport. This time being home we decided to visit. It filled every expectation. The welcome was brilliant. The pints were surreal and we will be back

Called in for a pint while passing and fell in love with the place, from the thatched roof to the sash windows and welcoming fire this pub has it all, anyone with an interest in Oliver goldsmith should pay It a visit.

We've been back twice since the time of review and am still happy to give a five star report again. My best recommendation would be for those in motorhomes or touring caravans.....if ( as we did ) you fancy over-nighting at a genuinely traditional Irish pub you'd have to go a long way to find better. There is ample and easily accessable parking and the owner is very accommodating. There aren't many places still around like this and we're really glad we stopped by the first time. It's a truly wonderful find.

We stopped by for a spot of tea on our way out to the Cliffs of Moher. What a neat little find! The owner was friendly and chatty and even offered us scones from the local bakery. Probably more of a spot for a drink, but it was nice in the afternoon as well. Learned lots about the history of Oliver Goldsmith. Had no idea this place was featured in one of his works! (A nice find for my literary loving self!)
