- Bozeman-DublinTrim, Ireland11,261 contributionsGreat Day OutWe had a great fun filled day at BaySports recently. Really well organised, instructors met us on arrival and went through everything so efficiently. We were a big group yet everything ran so smoothly. The paddleboarding and kayaking were great fun, and we had a fantastic time on the inflatable slides. Plenty of parking, good changing and shower facilities and such a beautiful, scenic area. Highly recommended.Fantastic! Large slides are back with a few obstacles. You need plenty of energy and company to support each other climbing the 🛝 slides. Everything about the water park on the Shannon is just brilliant. From the lay out and organisation the staff who are very welcoming. To decent pricing and on the lake grub and drinks. Just a brilliant day out.Hello Hosh01, Many thanks for your review. The staff are so helpful, gave safety training first and showed us how to get out to the slides. The kids loved the big slides and we had such a good time. Showers after were so warm and facilities like drinks and food were amazing, we cannot wait to go back again.Hello elainefP9987XD, Many thanks for your complimentary review, we are delighted you enjoyed your time here at Baysports! This was my 3rd time at baysports this year. I came with my teenage daughter and her two friends. They had great fun, I couldn’t fault anything. From beginning to end, everything ran seamlessly. All the staff were friendly and what seems to be the owner has been onsite each time I’ve been there to oversee everything. They’ve done a great job to adhere to Covid restrictions in the current climate. I would highly recommend Baysports, it’s good outdoor fun and we were lucky with the weather the day we were there which was an added bonus for us. 😎

I visited Bay Sports on Sunday 26 September and we had a wonderful day.
Attraction itself: Brilliant experience, suitable for different fitness levels. The water is freshwater, so no worries if it gets in your eyes. The website says you can walk or swim out to the attraction however my feet could not reach the ground. I am 5"2 for reference. However I noticed most people, even my friend who is quite tall, were swimming.
There are staff on the attractions however no one is actually monitoring the people going down the slides. This meant people going down slides could bump into people at the bottom if the people at the bottom were too close. On a few occasions you have to pass by the bottom of one slide to get to the next attraction and if you aren't careful you could get hit by someone coming down the slide as no one is monitoring the situation. It is up to you to make sure you aren't too close to the base of a slide and similarly, if you are going down a slide, it is up to you to ensure the space at the end is clear.
You are given a wet suit and life vest. My friend who cannot swim had no problems in the water. It was a bit of a rainy and overcast type of day but surprisingly the water was not as cold as we expected. We only got cold if we hung out on the attractions for too long. Once we were in the water we were ok.
Location: Baysports is located a bit out of the way. If you drive, there are no issues but if, like us, you are reliant on public transport, it is a bit difficult to get to. Also there were basically no taxis on a Sunday in the area. There seemed to be one taxi driver doing all of the fares to and from it.
Site: The changing ares are like tents but can accommodate a decent number of people without feeling claustrophobic. There is a cloakroom which can accommodate 2 or 3 schoolbag size bags for 2 euro.
After Sports: Our main issue was after the activity. There are hot showers to heat up but they are outdoors, right beside the waterfront. So you have to have a nice hot shower outdoors in front of everyone and then make the chilly walk to stand in the queue to retrieve your belongings. You could get your belongings first but there wasn't anywhere close to the showers for us to leave them, without them getting wet and dirty. On a warm day this is probably not so bad, but we had quite a cloudy and rainy day. The food truck which we were looking forward to was closed so we couldn't heat up with some food either. There were no facilities to dry your hair either. We are 3 women with long hair and a long train journey. This meant we were freezing cold for the long trip home.
Overall, we had a wonderful experience and recommend this to groups of friends or to work places looking for team building days. The staff are friendly, the premises are clean and the inflatable waterpark is great fun.

HI Nikki,
Thank you so much for your detailed review and for pointing out some of your concerns.
The distance from the end of the blue blocks and the landing platform is roughly 50 meters, It is a straight path to the landing area and we feel it is the perfect scenario to adjust to the water temperature/feeling while being completely supervised.
The main park and all slides are supervised by a member of staff and there is also a rescue boat circulating constantly. The member of staff on the slide is responsible for controlling the numbers on their slide and ensuring the splash down area is clear. If this wasn't the case during your session I apologise but assure you all our staff have been trained to do so and are gently reminded throughout the day.
Location - We are less than a 10 min drive from Athlone town, but like you said if you don't drive it can be tricky. Next time try the Viking boat it leaves the town centre and brings you right to the harbour in Hodson Bay.
Thank you so much once again for you detailed review and for sharing your experience. We hope you will come along again and hopefully the sun comes out for your next visit.

Really smooth checking, plenty of car parking, tea coffee and food on site. The staff were friendly and helpful. The water park was great fun. We are already talking about our next trip. It was also nice to be able to slip straight in to the lovely Hodson Bay hotel afterwards for lunch 😀. In advance, an hour seemed short, but the full hour on the water was plenty of time to get the most of all the slides and I think the whole package was excellent value

I have visited bay sports multiple times over the last few years and was very excited to return after lockdown however I was very disappointed.
After gathering friends (all adults) I booked our day out on Sunday last the 5th of July online.
the customer service team were very helpful as I amended our booking multiple times.
I paid €22.50 per adult with an additional €19 for taxes and fees therefore paid over €140 in total.
When we arrived the staff were very helpful and organised, when out on the inflatable park we realised the three big slides were closed because of the weather conditions (windy).
We were disgusted, as I said we were a group of adults and the only slides we could access weren’t very big and the obstacles weren’t very challenging for an adult level.
I appreciate the fact that bay sports have to ensure the safety of visitors however we were not notified by email or phone call that the best part of the park was closed. In fact we weren’t notified until we asked a member of staff when we were out on the water. No staff told us on reception or throughout the building before entering the water. We paid full fees presuming we were accessing the full water park and even on arrival we weren’t issued a refund of any kind.
If we were notified that the slides were closed we would have rearranged our visit.
I would strongly advise to ring before hand to ensure the full water park is open as it is not worth the total price when the park is restricted

I am sorry that your trip to Baysports was not up to standard and I would like to sincerely apologise. Unfortunately we are always at the mercy of the weather and when we feel that we have to close some of our slides for safety reasons we do post this on Facebook and our website as mentioned in our FAQs. If you had contacted the duty manager on the day or emailed us before posting on TripAdvisor we might have been able to resolve the matter.

The website should make it clearer that you are required to swim 150m out to the water park. It is not possible to walk unless you are taller than 2metres.
I paid for 1 adult and three kids under 10. Although the staff were friendly , it’s unfair that it states on the website FAQ that you do not need to know how to swim and when you arrive are told to swim 150m so they can assess your ability..
This ‘swim test’ should be made clear n the website. There is a section on the website that says ‘Do I need to know how to swim!’ And the answer is NO, however this is not true.
Apart from that disaster my kids enjoyed their time in the under 6 area. It’s very small but the staff were accommodating and we were able to go from the area to lake and back when they got bored.
We did not get a refund on the cost of nearly €80 so it was a expensive paddle in a lake.
I would of returned when my kids were older and confident swimmers but after reading the sarcastic and condescending response to a previous reviewer it has completely turned me off and I will not be recommending it. Really bad customer service.

Great attraction, very well run. I had a problem when checking in, the lady kept insisting that I hadn't paid the €4 spectator fee because she couldn't find it on her system even though I was showing her my booking which showed that I had paid. It annoyed me to have to pay €4 in the first place after paying over €130 for my group without someone repeating that the €4 hadn't been paid.

Hi
We had a really great time at the park saturday 19th June staff on the inflatables where absolutely brilliant but I have to bring to your attention the girls in the area where we get out wet suits. I got mine it was way too small and zip was broken which was absolutely fine. I went back to change it and the way the girls made me feel in there was awful the looks they gave each other and giggles in response to me saying I needed a bigger wet suit made me feel very embarrassed I'm not a big girl. I would hate to see the reaction If a lady bigger than me asked as it made me feel quiet embarrassed. I was so angry at this and it ruined my own personal experience. You need to teach the girls in the wet suit area not to be making faces and giggling to each other and so rude and abrupt if someone asks for a different size. One of the girls had a radio and blonde hair. I paid for a family of 5 to go on the inflatables not for me to feel ashamed to ask for a different size wet suit.
I have mailed Facebook emailed they have seen my complaint but don't even bother to respond!
Should teach their younger girls in the wet suit room some respect. Also have the decency to reply back to customers

Hi Jenny,
I would like to extend my most sincere apologies to you on behalf of the members of staff in question. We have identified a cohort of staff who could have been in that area at that time and have spoken to them individually. As well as that we have read out your email at our daily morning safety briefings over the past 3 days, which all staff are in attendance. This should not have happened and goes totally against our customer care ethos and we take instances like this very seriously.
I also wish to apologise for not replying to your email in a timely fashion. While the instance was dealt with internally on a number of occasions, we omitted to reply to you in a timely fashion. For this we apologise. While this is of no use to you, we endeavour to not let it happen again.Your feedback goes a long way to help us improve our service.
Once again may I offer my most sincere apologies for both your negative experience and the untimely reply.
Kind regards
The Baysports Team

Visited here while staying nearby with two adults and two kids (12 & 9 years).
Check-in was very easy getting tickets, wetsuits and buoyancy vests from very friendly and approachable staff (big mention to Tommy who popped up several times over the day doing several jobs). Got changed in the marquee tents and straight into the water.
Yes, it is a lake and yes, the water is cold at the start, but it very quickly becomes manageable and even comfortable (thanks to the wetsuits).
After the swim out to the floats the fun started climbing and sliding back into the water. Our 12 year old is a string swimmer but the 9 year old was very nervous but as soon as he went into the water and saw how much the buoyancy aid kept him up he was as fearless as his big brother. Absolutely no problems at all and everybody had a great time.
Staff at every stage couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful. Plenty of lifeguards and very good system for checking people into and out of the water.
Overall, the hour went far too quickly. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to spend some time having fun out in the water.

Baysports is a great family activity and deserves credit for making improvements to facilities and experience all the time. We are living locally and are regular visitors.
Its also one of very few outdoor activities where rain probably enhances the experience!
However one major gripe is the €4 "spectator fee" introduced this year which is just inexcusable. How you can expect parents to pay for the privilege of simply watching their kids have fun after already forking out for the fairly hefty admission fee?
Its not like you can see a whole lot anyway - Slides are 100 meters off shore and all the kids look the same in wetsuits. Its not so much the cost as the cheek of it.
Save yourself €4 and bring binoculars and watch from the pier!
