We had Sean's Bar on our bucket list for Ireland! What a treat! We got there not too long after they opened. We struck up a conversation with the gal at the bar and she gave us. the complete lowdown on the history of the bar. Fascinating!

I'd say Sean's has done a great job at melding the old with the new!

Met up with a friend here before eating, lovely greeting as I walked in. Good service, drinks brought to our table. It was early evening, relaxed atmosphere, gentle hum of conversation, just as things should be. My friend enjoyed his pint of Guinness, cute dog sitting on a high stool, what’s not to like?

Quick stop on the way to Galway. Love that it's so old. Cute little pub atmosphere with the warm fire glowing and drinks and laughter. Sat in a little snug with a pint then moved to the bar to chat with the owner (?). Very friendly. Just a neat little stop.

Never miss an opportunity to enjoy a drink in Sean’s bar. Very old style, great music, friendly clientele and great bar staff. The also happen to serve the best pint of Guinness in Ireland. I love this pub.

I visited Sean’s bar as recommended by a friend, I was alone but had to see the oldest pub in Ireland, I spent a good few hours there, friendly bar staff and locals I had a blast.. I highly recommend a visit you won’t be disappointed

A must visit just because it was founded around 900AD. The pub hasn't served food in over 40 years so expect a liquid diet if hungry. The space is much bigger than expected if you count the back rooms. Good selection of beers

Undeniably a nice setting, but soured by treatment there. Was in with 4 friends (guys in 30s) for a pint, relatively early in the day, before leaving Athlone after a weekend there.
Half-way through our pint, the barman saw a tour bus pull up outside and asked us to move to the outside area in the back, to leave the most scenic part of the pub empty for people on the tour to enjoy (as he put it). We obliged, as he asked politely, but it was rather strange.
Without our knowledge, some other friends who were in a different part of the town tried to enter soon after, and he refused them entry, saying no large groups, stags or hens allowed, etc. He then came out to the back to say the same to us. We finished our drink and left, walking back through the pub which had a large group of about 50 people from the tour-bus inside. Double standards.

Not sure I could leave a review that could do Sean's bar justice.

Celebrating my 40th birthday in the boathouse, and all I can say were the staff (from the bar staff, to the door staff, to the Manager) were phenomenonal from start to finish. The pub itself is beautiful, and the atmosphere was perfect.

Highly recommend. ☘️

‘Twas the creamiest of stout, in the coziest of bars, a fine spot to head out, and drink with the stars.
