About
Step back 1,200 years and join the Vikings on a replica Viking Ship. Cruise up the River Shannon to Lough Ree or down river to the monastic settlement and round towers of Clonmacnoise whilst hearing live commentary on Viking hoards, the beauty of the river, its flora, fauna, bird and fish life. Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A great way to see the river while in Athlone. Lots of fun facts about the Viking history and how they invaded Ireland. Remember to pack a jacket - it can be chillier on the boat.

Excellent, relaxing and informative meander down the Shannon.
Lovely scenery with a lot of fishermen dotted along the shore and in the river. Lock operation interesting and view of Clonmacnoise site stunning from the Viking.

A most enjoyable 70 minutes relaxing on board while listening to a very informative explanation by Mike of the history of the area and all the various sights. The complimentary coffee was appreciated too.

Loved everything about it, was able to spend some lovely quiet time with my daughter enjoying our local scenery without digital devices, and to top it off it was a lovely sunny day

Great fun, staff were great. Nice way to meet other people and have a laugh. Couldn't hear any of the tour though as there was a hen party who were worse for wear and constantly shouting. Limited seating too when the weather is bad.

Perfect way to spend time with kinds. The kids got a swords and shields and they were pretending to be vikings. We adults were enojoing the nice coffee and lovely scenery. There was a pre recorded audio with information abouth history and sites. The weather was lovely. We were lucky we took first cruise as the next one was much more crowdly.

Hi Navigate40888227140, the Lough Ree/Hodson Bay Cruise is €15 per adult and €7 per child. No need to book; check the website for the latest sailing times. You can buy your tickets onboard the ship.

Hello! I took a group of college students to Athlone and we enjoyed your cruise very much (May 2017). I’m bringing another group (20 of us) to Ireland this May and would like to visit Clonmacnoise for 3 or so hours (take picnic perhaps). Would a Viking Cruise be a good way to see Clonmacnoise and allow us a few hours there? If so, What days and times does your cruise take this route? Jeff

For the Lough Ree Cruise that is a family ticket plus 3 children. The total price would be €66

When I check the website for Viking Tours from Athlone to Clonmacnoise, it appears they do NOT have daily excursions. Any help here on any other excursions??

Can you tell me the cost in Aus dollars please, and was the whole trip (there & back 1 hour+). Also do you get off at Clonmacnoise? Is that where this monument or what ever it was, is?

It goes from Athlone to the Hodson Bay Hotel - stops there to pick up passengers and then goes back into Athlone. No stop at Clonmacnoise. 10 Euro per adult / 5 per kid or 30 for family (around 45 Aus $)
