We did the mine tour that was lead by Sean. It was very interesting and all the ages in our group that ranged from 7 to 50 enjoyed it. It was beautifully restored. We then did the sheep dog demonstration lead by Keith and his dog Floss. It was very well done. We were the only ones in the group and Keith took the time to go into detail how he trains the dogs, how he manages the sheep, the difference between the mountain and low land ones. He was very personable. All of us enjoyed it.

The mines were a great experience with a very knowledgeable and sweet tour guide. The sheep hearding demonstration was equally as great and so much fun to watch and experience. One of the highlights of our trip, 10/10 definitely recommended.

Wonderful family feel to this unique place with several distinct things to see and do from the mine, to the sheepdog demonstration and the turf cutting, Safe, clean and child friendly with a relaxed outdoor space to explore. Keith, who does the sheepdog demo and also did the bog tour and turf cutting, is a funny, friendly font of knowledge and his love of the land shines through. The mine tour is a great way to spend some time learning about the rocks under our feet and the lives of those who toiled to bring them to the surface. It is a fascinating and rewarding way to spend some time in the heart of the Galway countryside. Highly recommend this place to families.

On a family holiday to Galway with 2 smallies (2 and 4 year old), we decided pretty last minute to try and book a sheepdog trial experience. I saw that this could be booked and paid for online, same day, so went with Glengowla and i'm so happy I did!!
The venue is absolutely beautiful, very well kept and plenty of facilities. The staff were extremely friendly and enthusiastic.
The girls were delighted to be greeted with Pip, a 14 week old sheepdog pup and were able to have a quick cuddle. Keith then brought us out next door and gave us such an informative history of the area, sheep, sheep dog etc. Adults and kids were equally entertained.
If the kids were older we would have been interested in the mine tour etc but it gives us another reason to come back again.
Wouldn't look anywhere else for an afternoon out with kids!!

Visited with my husband and 3 girls ( ages 15, 13 & 11) and had a great time. Our guide for the mine tour was Aonghus and he was excellent, very informative and friendly. The Sheep herding with Keith and Floss (and guest appearance by Pip) is not to be missed. Keith is very passionate about what he does and gave a great talk on farming life. I would highly recommend a visit.

We visited Glengowla Mines for the sheepdog demonstration and the mine tour.
The sheepdog demonstration (with Floss, the border collie) was a highlight of our trip to Ireland! Watching master, dog and sheep together was instructive and had all the visitors spellbound as Floss brought the sheep down from the meadow.
The mines ran from 1850-1865 and the family has done an incredible job of making them safe and accessible to modern visitors. The amount of information they’ve uncovered about life in the mines at that time reflects an impressive amount of research. They will share as much as you would like to know.
The exhibits that are appropriate for every age group.
The farm is a true small family run operation. I was amazed at all they accomplish! Thank you!

My sister and I visited on a quiet weekday afternoon and we were one of two parties there. We saw the sheepdog demonstration and the mine tour as a group of the two of us. We met one of the sheep herding dogs Floss and saw herder-in-training Misty pre and post demos and both are the absolute sweetest dogs. Thank you for letting us pet them, that made our day.

Keith and Floss were absolutely wonderful. Keith went over the tour time talking to us about the demo, the dogs, and his sheep. Super knowledgeable! We were spouting the facts we learned during that demo to our other family member that missed it the rest of the week. Sean also went over tour time talking to us about the mine. Its incredible how hard that family has worked to clear out the mine and that they still haven't reached the end of it yet!

After our tours, both Keith and Sean helped us plan the next day of our route with lots of recommendations that were fantastic and we ended up moving our route entirely and were happier for it! We would definitely visit again to not only see how far their work on clearing the mine has progressed but also just to talk to Keith and Sean and see the dogs again! We kept referring back to this visit as we had so much fun.

Although we had sun, the sheepdog demo viewing area is covered and the mine is underground so both would be a good rainy day activity too!
