    Interesting and value for money
Cycled here from Strandhill, disappointing there were no refreshments, but this was excellent value. For 5 Euro each we got an interesting 20 minute video about the castle and surrounding area plus a one hour guided tour which was very informative. A quaint fortified Manor House, if you were guiding yourself round, 30 minutes should do it unless you spend time in the exhibition, but would recommend the guided tour. In a beautiful setting.

    Worth a visit.
Parkes Castle is a relatively modern castle built on the site of the castle of the Irish O'Rourke family. In the late 20th century the ruin was restored with the traditional materials and techniques as a training project for young builders. The guided tour is very interesting. The admittance is not expensive.

Beautiful Castle with Friendly Helpful Staff
I really enjoyed my visit to Parkes Castle recently. The staff were so helpful and knowledgeable. There is a short film, maybe 15 minutes long in a small auditorium first then a very good self guided tour with the help of a detailed laminated sheet. Great views of the castle from the battlements, mot to mention the views out across the water. Inside the castle there are very interesting exhibits. A lovely, quaint tour, really enjoyed it.

A visit more than w0rth the journey
Parke's Castle may be a bit small, but it is an example to the Office of Public Works in Ireland (OPW) working at their very best. It is quit simply amazing to look at photographs of the castle as acquired by the OPW and the finished castle today. You need to look at the workmanship of timbers in roof which have been remade to perfection. The stonework is superb as well as the Liscannor slate used to roof all of the buildings. Staff at the castle could not have been more interesting. A visit is more than worth the journey, we traveled from County Cork!

Smaller castle but interesting visit, helpful staff, beautiful setting
This was one of the smaller castles our family visited, but as other reviewers have noted, the restoration work is excellent, the exhibits are interesting, and the staff are helpful. There is a short audiovisual film about the surrounding area (not specific to Parke's Castle) and a printed guide given to visitors for those who wish to tour at their own pace (without a guided tour). The setting is beautiful regardless of the weather. Some of the sites of interest in the castle are outdoors, but there are several indoor exhibits, so it's still possible to visit in the rain. We would recommend for a visit. It took us less than an hour to see the castle.

Our group of 26 enthusiastic playschool children had a great day out at Parke's Castle.
The guides Siobhan and Dara were absolutely exceptional and made us feel so welcome as they altered their pitch perfectly to engage a large group of lively 3-5 year old.
They went well beyond what anybody could possibly expect.
Thank you 😊

Really interesting restored castle, got a short intro by a guide and then did some exploring. Informative film is available to be seen , which we did, and overall a worthwhile visit. Margaret in the ticket office is a lovely welcoming host. Also the boat tour of Lough Gill is available- seasonally- just beside the castle, did that as well and delighted with it.

We arrived at Parke Castle knowing very little about the site. We were given the warmest greeting by the tour guide/site operator, Siobhan, who kindly let us walk our dog in the lawns around the castle. Once inside Siobhan gave us an indepth history of the building and it's occupants, all of which was fascinating. She then told us about a nearby friary, something we had no idea was there and hadn't planned on visiting but were really glad we did.
All in all a 5 star review for Parkes Castle and for Siobhan's welcome and wealth of knowledge. Thank you

We had a large family group ranging in age from 70 to 8 years old. Siobhan at the reception was very efficient and welcoming.
Our guide, Dara, gave concise explanations that were of interest to everyone.
Plenty of time to ask questions afterwards.
Castle has nicely renovated interior, and exterior walls to climb. Great view of the lake!
Is a manageable size, with easy access from the parking.

Parke's castle is a restored plantation era castle.

Seamus was AMAZING regarding his presentation of the history of the property!! Seamus was very good/interesting, one of the best presentations we have heard, he made our visit to the castle!

The day we visited there were far too many folks on bicycles on the twisty, narrow road. We saw the results of a horrible accident, be cautious with your driving.

Driving past we came across this castle unexpectedly. Pleased we took the time to visit as it turned into a highlight of our trip. Very knowledgeable staff guided us around as they tacked us on to another group. Great insight to the lives of the locals going back hundreds of years.

I visited parkes Castle with my four sons 6, 8, 8 & 12. From the time we entered reception the lady at the reception Margaret was warm and welcoming. She conversed and had the lads entertained in no time.. she gave them a double page of items to find around the Castle. The information map of the castle was easily follow. The lads loved the displays, competition as to who would find the items on the sheet first. They enjoyed the view from the top of the Castle over Loch Gill. Following the visit Seamus at reception congratulated the lads for getting all the items and gave them a picture of Parkes Castle to colour in.
I would recommend Parkes Castle to others with young children. I think the treasure hunt for items on the sheet was brilliant. Well done to all.
