Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This planetarium visit was remarkable and surprising for our party of 10, with ages from 50-something down to 7 years old. Fionn Ferreira, the planetarium's curator, also happens to be a 17 year old leaving cert student and winner of several international science awards (including BT Young Scientist) for his invention which can eliminate microplastics from the ocean. Fionn meticulously, and with dry humour, took us through the Planetarium presentation - which is made possible by a truly impressive light machine that was donated to Schull by a mystery German scientist after World War 2. Ask Fionn, he will tell you all about it. After the presentation, Fionn takes questions - any questions about space - and just try and stump him - I bet you can't. Bring extra pocket money for the small but interesting gift shop because by the end of the show - you will want to support the Schull Planetarium all you can. Fionn is a strong supporter of youth in science and was extremely kind and generous with his time. Go for the planetarium, which is impressive in its own right - but just try and not be impressed by its young curator. I think you would fail.

Very good and informative presentation by young student. Planetarium itself is little dated and equipment has showing it but for money you pay it was great experience. I would strongly recommend to stop by if you are around with kids.

My father-in-law, my stepson and I, visited this local planetarium on a recent family holiday to Schull. Apparently it is the only planetarium in Ireland (which I find very hard to believe!) The 45 minute show started off with a video about the Hubbel Space Telescope (the video was about five years out of date), followed by a tour of the night skies above Schull. The young man presenting the show was very knowledgable and friendly, however more of a multi-media presentation would have been more helpful to explain more background about the solar system and our galaxy. The technology and the star viewer was a little old. I think a little bit of new financial investment would raise the profile and the quality of their offering, which has the potential to be a very rewarding experience. Though I'm not sure how easy it is for this local astronomy society to do that?

Fionn is an excellent speaker and his knowledge is fantastic.
I would definitely recommend this outing.
Very reasonably priced, the show takes about 40/45 mins

I wouldn’t reconsider this for children under 6/7 as they would have to be interested and if they loose interest it could spoil it for everyone else. My daughter is 7 and she loved it but I’d say if it was another 10 minutes longer she may have gotten fed up

Thanks again and we will be back

A real need to be clear as to their opening hours and what is on when and where. Twice we visited to be told no show on a Tuesday or a Wednesday etc. etc. blah, blah. There is conflciting information on their website and locally as to when they have shows - even one guidebook talks about their "mysterious opening hours!. Keep it simple lads - tell the tourists what it is you have to offer, when and where and the people will come. Otherwise don't waste our time.

A planetarium consists of two essential parts: a projector drawing the night sky and a guide touring you around.
At Schull planetarium both were excellent.

A piece of handmade Zeiss optics in perfect shape would be an interesting exhibit in itself, but seeing it come to life and handled with the skill is what made this an experience.

Fionn Ferreira's presentation gives a solid introduction to our night sky, covering the various sights from an observational angle. A pedagogical point I would like to note is that after showing some of the most easily recognised landmarks and where to find other things from that, the entire sky is rotated from the current evening to the morning, and what-changes-and-why is explained together with finding the landmarks again before continuing. The entire presentation was sprinkled with mythological and scientific anecdotes.

The enthusiasm and energy shines.

If the countless audio-visual presentations available at any local "attractions" are starting to wear you out, this planetarium, located in Schull of all places, is a fresh breath worth a visit. We, a family group deciding on this as our endpoint before heading back east along the coast of West Cork certainly had a good time.

On my recent trip to scull over Easter, I visited the planetarium. The young guide Fionn was excellent and explained new concepts to us in an innovative way. You must come and have a look! What an educational and interesting show.
We had quite a large group and it was a great way to spend the evening.
Book tickets through the website to make sure you get a seat. It was heaving with people.
also, there were a few interesting things in the gift shop.
