About Baltimore Sea Safari
Baltimore Sea Safari is a family run boat trip business from Baltimore in West Cork, Ireland, providing coastal sightseeing tours, with whale, dolphin, porpoise, seal and wildlife watching. Our aim is to introduce our passengers to the outstanding beauty of the West Cork coastline, while looking out for the wildlife that may be in the area. The waters off Baltimore offer the perfect environment to see whales, dolphins, porpoise, basking shark, seals and a wide variety of seabirds. We operate in an area of exceptional unspoiled natural beauty within Carbery Hundred Isles, Roaringwater Bay (which is a designated Special Area of Conservation SAC) and the Ilen River, which are home to the most diverse range of sea and bird life to be seen anywhere in Ireland. During our boat trips we provide an informative commentary on the sights of interest, and on the fascinating history of the area and its wildlife. We visit seal colonies on all of our boat trips, and the shallow draft and high manoeuvrability of unique boat allows us to take passengers into sea caves previously used by smugglers and pirates. During all of our boat trips we collect data on the wildlife that we encounter, logging times, numbers, behaviour, positions and take photos for photo ID where ever possible. This data is shared with other agencies, groups and universities to help develop a better understanding of the whales, dolphins, porpoise, basking sharks, seals, ocean sunfish and other wildlife that frequent the waters around the West Cork coastline. We also have an onboard Hydrophone for listening to the sounds of the sea. Even though we have a good record for whale, dolphin and wildlife sightings, they are not guaranteed.

Excellent trip out with Baltimore sea safari. Hot busy day around the pier so I’d advise to arrive ahead of time to get parking! Bring something for the breeze as it can get chilly on the sea. Took our 4 kids with autism and despite the poor humour of one of them they all throughly enjoyed it, Micheal was patient throughout and was extremely knowledgable about the surrounding islands and wildlife. We saw dolphin, seals, jellyfish, tons of birds and even caught a few glimpses of a mink whale. Trip was 2.5 hrs which we found just long enough for our children. Boat was small but comfortable with seating and suited us perfectly not being over crowded. I’d highly recommend going with this crew. Thanks for a memorable excursion.

Dolphins , seals and amazing views. Myself and my girlfriend booked onto the rib experience with Baltimore sea safari. Initially the trip was cancelled a day before the scheduled tour due to bad weather, however due to good communication from michael we were able to book onto the next day when the sea and weather conditions were calmer. Micheal was an absolute legend and a man that clearly knows his history , heritage and environment. For the 2 and a half hours we were on his vessel it was an absolute pleasure. The tour will take you around the coast line and into the sea. You will get a detailed tour and history lesson of the area. As well as seeing sights such as seals , jellyfish , birds , dolphins and porpoise. Unfortunately we didn’t see a whale but this is to be expected with the time of year and previous weather conditions. This is nature and life. Michael spent ages hunting down species of wildlife to try and get us the best experience and views whilst out. This was without disturbing the natural environment of the wildlife. On the tour we also went into a cave like area which was beautiful. For €30 euros each this was an absolute steal and quite rightly Micheal was tipped for his time which I personally think was worth a lot more. 5 stars. Thank you Micheal.

This was the highlight of our trip to West Cork. Mícheal is so knowledgeable about the area. Loved hearing about the local history, the coastal rock formation is quite something and entering the sea cave was very cool. We were ecstatic to come up close and personal with a minke whale, dolphins and seals among all the sea birds. Super!

We had a great morning on the sea safari in Baltimore. Micheal was an excellent guide and gave us very interesting details of the local history and wildlife. We saw dolphins, seals and porpoises but unfortunately didn't get to see any minky whales. I would highly recommend it.

Joan D Thank you for your recommendation and review of Baltimore Sea Safari. It is great to hear that you enjoyed your trip out with us. Pity you didn't get to see whales, there was a period of weeks where whale sightings have been very scarce along the coastline. Hopefully we will see you on a Baltimore Sea Safari boat trip again in the near future, and that you will get to enjoy whale sightings. Regards, Mícheál

Sea Safari with a competent Skipper. We have seen dolphins, porpoise, otter, seals and lots of birds. Due to the waves dolphins and porpoises were not easy to spot. Michaels in depth knowledge on animals and also the history of the region is impressive and his stories are well told.

Jorge R Thank you for taking a boat trip with Baltimore Sea Safari and for taking the time to review your boat trip. Its great to hear that you enjoyed your boat trip out with us, its a pity that the weather was sloppy at sea, as it does make it harder for looking for and at whales and dolphins. Mícheál
