Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Walk up to the top not to challenging. Some great views give you an excuse to stop for a rest.
When you get to the tower it's all worth while.
Definitely something that you should do if you visit the island.
I prefer to walk back the way I came, but you can complete the loop over the hillside if you fancy, though it's a bit more off-piste.

I was in Portmagee for the day and decided to take the Bray Head Loop Trail. In general, it is easy to find - very few roads on the island, so, you are destined to pass the signs. Despite it being a beautiful Saturday afternoon, there weren't many people there. I paid my 2euro for the car park and headed off. The trail is to the old watchtower. The views are pretty amazing. It was a clear day and I could see the Kerry Cliffs, the Skelligs and up the Northern coastline. Many people just hike to the watchtower and head back to the car park. The grade is about 15-20'ish degrees -so, not hard but not easy either - take your time. From the watchtower, you can continue to climb and get treated to even greater views. From there, you have to decide to either go back down to the watchtower and head back or complete the loop. I completed the loop - it had not rained in several days and the path (not well marked) back was fairly dry. After a while, the path seemed to disappear and I was basically just skipping from Sheep trail to Sheep trail to make my way back to the car park. All in all, it was a good hike -not very taxing and fairly quick <2.5 hours including my stops.

If you get the chance to enjoy this gift of nature, don't hesitate. The air is pure and fresh and the walks are spectacular. It is not a walk you will regret, even if, like me, you only go half way.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Bray Head loop walk. Make sure you have €2 for the car park. Very gradual climb up a dirt track to the old watchtower. The views out to Skellig Michael are amazing so make sure you go on a clear day. You can head back down the same way or follow the signs for the loop walk. Well worth it but boggy and uneven ground so you need sturdy footwear.

This place is off the beaten path! But if you are in the mood for a bit of walking, and want to see some wonderful views without the crowds.. this is the place to go. Park your car at the Bray Head Car Park, which is little more than a dirt lot. Then continue on the dirts road and explore till your hearts content. You can wander off the path in relative safety. You will most likely encounter sheep and cows along your path, but no worries. Enjoy the view and solitude of this magical place!!

I am not a walker. However, I pushed myself to the end and was rewarded with a magnificent view of the peninsula.
