We did the walking tour of the Derrygimla bogs and it was lovely. Paul was very knowledgeable and we learned so much on our walking tour. In addition to what we learned Paul
Was kind enough to share a slice of his wife’s delicious homeade banana cake and a cup of hot coffee with us halfway through our walk.
I highly recommend Paul to anyone who is coming to the area, he also gave us plenty of recommendations for our next few days. We will definitely be booking another tour with him when we come back to visit.

My husband and I had explored Connemara by car on a previous trip to Ireland and decided we needed to get a more in-depth understanding of this magnificent region. We hired Paul for two of our six days in Connemara on the recommendation of a guide we had hired for the Burren and on the strength of his guidebook and online reviews. He turned out to be the ideal guide for us. He customized our hikes based on our interests and physical abilities, as well as the weather. Paul is extremely focused on safety and planned many alternate walks for us based on changes in the weather forecasts. He also brought along extra gear in case we needed anything.
Paul is a polymath who wears his knowledge lightly. He deeply enriched our hiking experiences by his broad knowledge of the geology, ecology, human history, and economic, cultural, and political situation of the area. He patiently answered all our questions and pointed out innumerable treasures along the trail that we would likely have missed or not fully appreciated without him. In addition to all he shared with us during our walks, Paul gave us numerous suggestions for hikes and places to visit on our own, along with the best places to eat, shop, and soak up the local culture. He even provided GPS links to all the hard-to-find places. We were totally delighted to have had Paul as our guide and are eager to walk with him again.

Paul is a really excellent guide. Highly knowledgable and very experienced. With all the requisite recognised National qualifications (Mountain Leader/Emergency First Aid and Evacuation etc) he communicates in a really relaxed and informal style. Paul shares his love for the hills and intertwines this with a really comprehensive understanding of Irish History, Geology and Flora and Fauna. I had an excellent hike and thoroughly enjoyable day on Mweelrea with Paul. His calm demeanour and plethora of experience put me at ease throughout what was a really enjoyable and memorable day. I would highly recommend Paul as a guide. Walk Connemara was highly professional and proficient, from initial enquiry to booking and follow up communication it was faultless. If your considering a walk or hike then book with Paul and Walk Connemara - you won’t be disappointed.

Oh wow: thank you for the exceptional review. It is very good of you to spread the word in such a comprehensive way. It was a pleasure to guide you to the highest summit in the Connaught province: and you were good company too! I enjoyed giving you some pointers on mountain navigation: you seem to have an aptitude for mountain skills so I encourage you to take the formal training & wish you the best of luck. Paul Phelan

Paul guided our family on three walks: Omey Beach, Derryclare Woods, and Roundstone Bog. These walks were the highlight of our Ireland vacation. Paul tailored the walks to meet the needs of our 80-year-old grandma, 22-year-old Appalachian through-hiker, and everyone in between. He is patient, safety-conscious, knowledgeable, and kind.
The Omey Beach Walk was perfect for everyone in our group. The sturdier walkers took the invigorating bog and woods walks.
Experiencing Ireland's sublime beauty with these off-trail walks was joy-inducing and unforgettable.

There can be no better guide to see the beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way than Paul Phelan. He is warm, knowledgeable, and a genuine pleasure to hike with. Paul takes good care of his hikers and is always ready for a break if the group needs it. He's a fine gentleman, I highly recommend taking a tour with him!

I had the pleasure of hiring Paul over the course of two days in early April 2019. The first hike was up the side of Errisbeg for some stunning views and the second was a gorgeous walk within the Roundstone Bog. Both experiences rank amongst my favorite in Ireland. Paul knows his stuff and will take good care of you. I had a great two days.

That was a day! Five of the Twelve Bens around the owenglin river, ten hours of intense sweating under the irish heat wave. A memorable moment, thanks to you, Paul.

My greatgrandparents are buried in a cemetery near Renvyle/
Derryinver. Do you go near there?

Hi Colleen. Sorry for the delay in replying: I only just noticed your message.
Yes, I often guide on the Renvyle peninsula (and nearby hills and coast), particularly Letter Hill (Tully Mountain), which is a beautiful coastal hike. In fact I will be guiding there tomorrow.
Best wishes,
Paul Phelan
