This is the place to get the full Irish experience. Even though the guest rooms are a little dated, the time we spent there was wonderful! Maureen and Michael are very sweet and make a killer breakfast! The pub is right under the rooms(we couldn't hear a peep when we were sleeping), so when you're ready to go to bed you just walk up stairs! Their barkeep, CJ, was young but talked with us for hours about Ireland's rich history.

Kinsale is a beautiful coastal town, great for pictures and eating! Take the boat tour and learn about Charles' Fort and James' Fort and enjoy yourselves!

We spent a week going back to the Lord Kingsale. Michael is a wonderful publican host. The lunches there are truly delicious and we ate there a few times. You will always feel at home at the Lord Kingsale!

To be honest, we were a bit surprised when our meals turned out to be some of the BEST we had during our 2-Week vacation in IRELAND. The place looked good. The menu looked good. But when we looked inside, there were no diners. I don't know what made us take the plunge, but we walked in & gave this place a try. And so glad we did! The food was the best we'd had so far on our our vacation, having eaten at between 8-10 restaurants in Dublin & Kinsale. We really enjoyed our dinners, choosing some traditional items & some of the night's featured fish dishes - REALLY, SO DELICIOUS! Needless to say the wait staff was excellent, and they seemed happy to have some patrons to serve. The waiters kept peeking outside, almost looking for an explanation too; they said that this restaurant is always busy & really didn't know what was going on or why they were so slow that evening. Definitely give this place a try!

Visited Kinsale for 2 days and this was the first place we went to for some lunch as it wasn't busy like some of the other eating places we passed. That should have rang warning bells. We looked at the Menus on the wall and had quite a large selection. I ordered bacon and cabbage/ My other 2 friends ordered chicken Kiev/ Fish.
What we got was a disgraceful meal with tiny portions of "mixed veg" which was over cooked and bland. The bacon and cabbage was 2 bacon rashers and portion of bacon!
The chicken Kiev was a cheap frozen one served with a spoonful of rotten mash. The fish was "nasty". The extra order of chips was served in a tiny bowl and were some kind of cheap frozen brand. This place is a disgrace for Irish hospitality and clearly has no food morals or standards. The name Lord Kinsale is a complete joke. There is nothing about Lord inside. The other restaurants in Kinsale we visited were very good. This place is not cheap though the food is. You have been warned.
I understand that there is a BB in this place but I cannot comment on this.

7.30 pm visit to The Lord Kingsale - waited ages to order drinks at the bar for my wife and I but the bearded bartender completely ignored me, serving others who I suspected were locals and who arrived after me. I attempted to communicate but was again ignored which was very strange. I'm Irish and spent a lot of my time in Kinsale growing up before I emigrated. Had told my non-Irish wife about how friendly Kinsale is, and it is, but not at The Lord Kingsale. A lasting memory, which means no second visit for us. Everywhere else we went was simply outstanding and I recommend The Greyhound and The Folkhouse as the friendliest pubs with great Irish stouts.

i just has the most horrible experiance ever. i was having lunch in the lime tree( yes a different restaurant) but my 1 year child wet himself and the place had no hand dryers. so i went across the road to the lord kingsale and i met the worst bar maid ever who wasnt happy at all that i wanted to use there bathroom i said look i just want to try a small patch on my sons pants literally now a circle of pee. she really didnt want us to but i had no choice. it was a small bathroom but it wasnt busy so i wasnt taking up that much room. my friend waa there to help me. when an old woman came out of the loo she was like " WHAT ARE YOU DOING" i told her and she said No you cant do that you cant dry a pants do you know how dangerous that is? i said its the exact same as 5 people drying there hands ( as it wasnt that wet i only put the dryer on 5 times) she literally want me to leave i said i wont be too mins. then she said i couldnt put that on my son i said excuss me its my son. she left only to come back as we were puting the pants back on my son and i was told i wasnt allowed to bring him into the cubicle i said thats fine im not im puting it on in his buggy then she told me no lift him up and bring him in here i said no its fine she was telling me what i could and couldnt do it really bothered me they were so rude and we were only in there for a max. of 5 mins. ive never experianced anything like this i found it so strange.

My friend had booked a 3-bed room (B n B), as a special treat to us, her two friends,as a Birthday celebration during the jazz w.end, only to be informed on that morning, that the room was now unavailable, as some English guests had decided to stay another night! We would be assigned two separate rooms now, and that was fine if we didnt want them, we were welcome to go elsewhere!

So while the rooms and breakfast were of a good standard (albeit no tea and coffee making facilities in room), on arrival the attitude was still quite unfriendly, and a request for a cup of tea before bedtime, while bar still open, was curtly refused, while sandwiches proferred by a barman were whipped away, the bite literally taken from out mouths! Such a shame, as Kinsale is such a lovely town to visit, a little courtesy was all that was required...

We had booked a triple room a month ago and were informed the day before when we rang to confirm that the people in that room were staying another night so we could have a double and a single. When I said that was inconvenient I was basically told 'tough' - that the people have been coming for years and she couldn't move them and she would have to change the linen!!!! I was told that I could cancel if I wanted even though it was the Jazz weekend so no other rooms to be had...

When we arrived the attitude was really bad and we felt very unwelcomed and were told that we could go elsewhere..In the end we had to calm the situation ourselves and take a single and double room....

The attitude was disgraceful...I have never been treated like that anywhere and I've been to a lot of B & B's and hotels all over..

When we arrived back to the residents bar at 1am we were served by a lovely young man who also gave us sandwiches and was making tea for one of us but 'Mrs Fawlty 'came in and grabbed the sandwiches and told him not to make tea and there were no tea making facilities in the room and she said what did we expect for the price (40 euro a head)!!!

The broken socket in the wall blew a fuse in my hair straightener and my friend nearly had a heart attack when she saw a massive spider crawling on my neck.

I would never advise anyone to stay here - Kinsale is such a lovely town and there are so many nice places to stay so avoid this one!! I would suggest from experience Friar Lodge, Tiernans....

I've stayed in guesthouse, B&B, hotels all over Ireland and in many different countries but I've never had such a bad experience as The Lord Kingsale. I stayed there during the Jazz Festival and although the bar staff were professional, we were given a less than friendly welcome by the hostile owner who questioned and challenged our every (minor !) requests. We felt we were intruding on her rather that being valued guests. The rooms were small, grotty, old-fashioned and they permeated a musty smell. The breakfast was poor enough too. Take my advice and spend your money somewhere else. - Gusto

Really nice old fashioned establishment...really good location ....right in the centre of Kinsale. Such a pity customer relations is sadly lacking! From the day before when I rang and confirmed our three bed room was ok, nice person told me all was well - see us tomorrow! Then half an hour later got call from 'not so nice person' to say that the people staying there the night before had decided to stay another night and WE would have to take another double and single instead - said I was a bit dissapointed because we wanted to be together and had booked - and why couldnt these people move (reasonable request??) and from there on I was the enemy!!! If I were dealing with a relatively sane person I believe I would have been very happy to accept the other rooms, (I really was not that put out about changing) it was the lack of apology and the 'take it or leave it - don't need your custom' attitude that galled me....We had calmed down by the time we arrived to check in but Madam had not!!
and immediately proceeded to tell my two friends that I had 'abused' her over the phone (NOT!!) Again when we returned after our evening we were singled out for abusive treatment among other customers still in the Bar - Unbelievable attitude in this day and age!! when customers should be welcomed more than ever. Have never in my life (56 years!) been treated in this manner. Just one person letting down her establishment and its a shame!
