Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Mary! Nobody quite like her! During my time as Regional Sales Manager for Beamish and Crawford in the mainland and based in Newcastle Upon Tyne I had the privilege of many visits to Cork and these visits consisted of not only a tour of the brewery but a visit to beautiful Kinsale and a quick visit to The Tap Tavern and the wonderful Mary. It really was a step back in time with her push button A telephone box and a tour of Tim's forge to the rear. Kinsale is truly a wonderful town and full of so much rich Irish heritage. I do miss it so!
Love to everyone there and apologies for not mentioning all of my wonderful friends there. Oh to visit again.

Actually cannot recommend this pub more. The bar man was great. So welcoming and pulls a great pint of Murphy's :) Definitely hit this place up if you like a pub. We went in October and the place was packed and the fire was on. Great spot.

Gorgeous cosy little pub with turf fire and loads of original features interesting artefacts and lots of interesting photos.
When we were there, Mary the proprietor was a great hostess with time tlo sit and chat while we enjoyed a few pints.

She had some very interesting points of view on life and we enjoyed hearing and debating them with her!

Has to be on your to do list when in Kinsale.

Fantastic pub in the heart of the town and close by to our accommodation. We really enjoyed having a drink here on a rainy evening in Kinsale with the fire going!

On our way back to our room, we passed two musicians. I asked where they were headed and we made the correct decision to go to The Tap! They were a male/female duo from Holland, but they sang and played Irish ballads like nobody's business. "Queen Mary" runs the bar and is known by all the locals. While there, a local gave us a tip on where to go the next night for trad music. And they were right on.

During our recent stay in Kinsale, Ireland, we enjoyed several evenings in the Tap Tavern. It is a lovely, family-friendly pub with historic and convivial atmosphere and a snug turf fire in the fireplace on chilly evenings. The pub is owned by Mary O'Neil, whom Rick Steves has called the "godmother of Kinsale", and her witty son Bryan. They are both delightful people to chat with, as is Mary's husband and Bryan's father Tim O'Neill, a skilled and creative metal fabricator who crafted many elements of the bar's decor. You can also take the Kinsale Ghost Tour from the Tap and see a delightful side of the medieval town you won't see anywhere else.

Although this pub does not catch your eye from the street, it's a wonderful, local watering hole. Mary and her son (owners) are lovely people that welcome all into their comfortable pub. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The pub offers comfortable couches and a warm fire. The pints are perfect. Every second Tuesday, this pub offers traditional Irish music - some of the best I've heard. I fell in love with this place after only a few minutes and will be sure to return if/when I'm in Kinsale again. (Thank you Mary and crew for a wonderful time! We enjoyed relaxing with you all.)

Superb pint of Guninness - what else can I say. Oh yes, everything I had expected of a traditional Irish Pub, lots to look at, friendly locals, great peanuts and the wonderful Mary.
We visited on an out of season Tuesday afternoon but were made really welcome by Mary with her cuppa and Brian pulling the pints.

Wish I could fold it up and take it home with me.

This is my favourite pub in Kinsale. It hasn't changed much in 30 years( the first time I drank there was in the 80s). It is one of the last pubs that is owned and run by Kinsale locals.
There are regular live music gigs and people have been known to dance too. It is a good place to have a chat and sit by the fire lovely on a wet and windy evening.
