About
Spend an entertaining fun hour at Ireland’s first Meadery in 200 years, located in the historic food-loving haven of Kinsale. Using a blend of ancient recipes and modern techniques, Kate and Denis Dempsey have resurrected a love of Mead through their sustainably made, award-winning meads created at their family run Meadery in Kinsale. Their meads are light and refreshing, fermented to 12% ABV and gluten free. Their unique mead range have won Blas na hEireann, Great Taste and Mazer Cup awards. Highlights of a fun tour at Kinsale Mead include insights into Kinsale Mead’s range of artisan meads. Explore the ancient myths and legends of mead in Ireland, learn about the Bechbretha, Ireland’s ancient Bee laws and how they protected the bees, and taste three unique raw honeys. Explore the process of modern mead making from honey selection and fermentation through to maturation and bottling. Sample their award-winning meads and cocktails in the Meadery’s oak bar tasting room.

Had such a lovely afternoon at the mead brewery. We learnt so much, the history was just amazing and so so interesting. Owners were so welcoming and easy to talk to. Everything ran smoothly and we tasted some incredible honey and bought 2 bottles of mead before we left... though we very easily could have bought all 4. We were given some great cocktail recipes and ideas on mulling some of the mead at christmas time so we will be ordering more for then. Thank you so much guys, your mead is awesome and we'll definitely buying more in the future.

A must visit for anybody looking for something different in Kinsale
Jul 2021
We recently attended the mead tasting experience and had an amazing time. Denis' enthusiasm and passion really comes across while he is explaining the history and folklore around mead in Ireland. We then moved on to a honey tasting which opened our eyes to what high quality natural honey can and should taste like. Then we got a tour of where the magic happens as Denis walks through each step of the mead production which is very interesting. The tour finishes with the mead tasting, which if you never had some before is unique and delicious. As a whole experience, we highly recommend the mead tasting tour for anybody in the Kinsale area.

Small enthusiastic company trying to re-establish the ancient art from of mead brewing. The owners live and breathe this business and it is 100% worth the short walk up the hill to their compact facility to taste the goodies they produce.
Informative. Interesting and entertaining it is an absolute challenge to not walk out with a couple of bottles under your arm and a couple of new facts under your belt.

Well worth a visit!

Great to get an insight into this unique operation. Track the history and development of this ancient substance through to the quality produce showcased here. Kate and Denis not only take obvious pride in their finished product but also the conservationist aspect of the business. The tasting at the end of the tour is interesting and enjoyable. Would recommend a visit!
