We spent a super day on the Food Walking Tour of Clonakilty, visiting various local food producers with our guide Kate and sampling their wares. We tasted, cheese, sausages, black pudding, fish cakes, bread, icecream, chocolate and beer - a great day out - we learned a lot and got to ask loads of questions of people who have a real passion for food

I had the pleasure of participating in a private tour with Kate last week. This was arranged for a family of 7 to celebrate a Big Birthday. All 7 of us found the day extremely enjoyable and we all had our fill of delicious foods - beautiful cheeses, bread, sausages, famous black pudding, beer, ice cream and chocolate. It was a joy to meet the local vendors and to learn so much about the care and effort that goes into our locally produced foods. One member of our party has several dietary restrictions and all of the stops along the way ensured that she was catered for - it was very much appreciated.

I would recommend this tour to anyone - I live locally and was fascinated to learn about the foods I have taken for granted.

I live locally but my sister was visiting from Canada and this tour was an ideal way to introduce her to some of the great food available in West Cork. Kate is an excellent guide and her interaction with the proprietors of the various venues made the experience even more rewarding. The sun was shining and the Clonakilty ‘vibe’ was very much in evidence. This is a great tour, we thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful!

This is an ideal opportunity to get a good range of the flavours of the region, supported by a very well-informed and enthusiastic guide. The black & white puddings plus the sausages are the stars of the show but vegetarians are also catered for and it is a great tour around Clonakilty.

Have been to Clonakilty many times, but never experienced it like this. Great value for money: lots of food (cheese, bread, cake, black pudding, sausages, olives, chocolate, ice-cream, beer) served by really friendly local folk.
Kate is very knowledgeable about food and local history.
I would highly, highly, highly recommend!

Myself and my boyfriend did a private food/drinks tour with Kate while we were in Clonakilty. It was fantastic. We started in the distillery with a private guided tour and a tasting of their 2 whiskeys and their gin. We loved this, and Kate made sure we got to taste the gin also as she knew I wasn't a whiskey connoisseur. This was a lovely touch. Our second stop was Stone Valley Coffee for coffee cupping and learning all about coffee roasting. We also got a bag of our favourite coffee each to take away with us. Then on to Clonakilty homemade ice cream to try out two flavours of our choice and to meet the lovely owner. Our final stop was in Molly's Cafe to taste 3 craft beers brewed in Clonakilty. The tour was great. We would definitely book a tour with Kate again when we come back. Thanks for a great experience.

Even though we’ve been coming to Clonakilty for over twenty years and are quite familiar with the restaurant and food scene, we realized we needed to know the people and processes behind the products. As an anniversary treat for ourselves we booked the Walking Food Tour with Kate Ryan and I am so glad I did. At 45Eu per person it was an expenditure we had to consider, and most food tours we had taken in the past left us hungry at the end of a chaotic day. Not so with Kate! We started upstairs at Aris Café and as the beautiful cheese selections came out on slate platters, I knew this was going to be a different kind of tour altogether. Kate had interesting history about each food producer, and not just sound bites that can be pulled from a guide book. At each stop I learned something unusual or memorable. Did you know the water buffalo imported from Italy to make beautiful fresh mozzarella enjoy the climate in Ireland because it is somewhat similar to their native Asian landscape? Did you know that bread naturally fermented for a long period is lower in gluten and easier to digest because the yeast has done its work? I do now! We walked and tasted generous samples at each place: cheese, artisanal bread, coffee cake, many types of sausages, black and white Clonakilty pudding, 3 craft beers, vegan offerings, a stop at the Clonakilty farmer’s market, local ice cream, and fair trade chocolate. When the tour ended at 3pm we were stuffed, full of both delicious food and fun facts about the people and processes that bring us the flavors of West Cork. Highly recommended.
