Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It was a Sunday evening in January, off season. The place is filled with notes, number plates and other collectibles from those who have been there over the years. While I currently live in Dublin, the 'Don't Mess with Texas' sticker touched my heartstrings as someone Texas born. Granted, Texas is a massive place, though all the mementos made it a special place. The locals in the pub were very warm, as is Ireland in general. Note they are a cash bar, so be sure to hit the ATM across the street before you head over. Sláinte!

While visiting Ireland, I was looking for a "real" Irish pub experience. We were staying at the Castle Hotel across the street and I finally managed to wander into the Golden Pub.
From the outside, I couldn't tell what this place was- hardware store, pub, ? Inside is magic. On one side are the remnants of an old store, the rest is as traditional a pub as you will ever find. In the back were a bunch of locals having a session. The only traditional music I heard while I was in Ireland.
At the bar, it took a bit to break the ice, but once I did, what an experience I had. Great conversation with the bartender/ owner and local people. Was the recipient of a few pints from my new and generous friends. What a fantastic evening; I'll never forget it

Had a great time here and was very intoxicated while here. But had good service and a good time. I guess that's all that counts right? If your passing through, stop in for a drink.

This bar is like an Aladdin's cave, it's like sitting in a hardware store from the 1960's.
Liz made us very welcome and gave us many tips for places to see. Well worth a visit for something very original , the best bar in Macroom.

The kind of pub who can forget about the world in. The original Irish pub and the rest of the world is spending a fortune to replicate.

A great traditional Irish pub - you don't see many of these around anymore!
The place is packed with bric-a-brac and everywhere you look, there is something to see.
Service was good and friendly.

If you want to experience how Irish pubs were in the good old days then step inside the door of the Golden Pub and be amazed. On one side of the pub there is a hardware store with everything from a needle to an anchor on display.
Then there is the bar at the other side again with a great collection of memorabilia on display. The atmosphere is laid back and great background music to add to the atmosphere.
I am looking forward to my next visit.
