What a fantastic surprise. My partner and I stumbled across this little piece of magic en route from Kinsale to Killarney. On seeing the roadside signs for the Model Soldier Factory we couldn’t possibly have driven on, a decision we were glad to have made. The lady in the factory made us most welcome and demonstrated how simple it is to make such a quality product. Her enthusiasm was contagious and we left with a modelling kit of our own, which we fully intend to utilise for our grandchildren. A must visit if you’re in the area and well worth a visit online.

What a lovely afternoon we spent in the toy factory we had a wonderful lady Helen helping us she couldn't do enough for us. What a fantastic lady to have working there so friendly remembering kids names ect. She provided pop corn while we were painting. A great hit with the kids.
No rushing us out. As it was quite. Definitely recommend for kids 6 or 7 up. Unless an adult helped with painting.

Ahh, thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. We're delighted you both enjoy the painting experience. Customers have often said the same thing, the time just flys by so quickly when their painting, just shows how relaxing the experince is.

Made an online booking for 3 adults and 3 children, age 7, 8, 10.
We were here for my moms birthday 4 years ago, she wanted her grandchildren to make something on her birthday so we surprised her with a return visit and we had the best day.
Eileen was so lovely to us 4 years ago and Marie was equally as kind and welcoming to us this time. She was so kind and attentive, a really lovely lady.
The children chose between fairy doors and little figurines and they loved painting them.
Due to Covid, we have not taken our children to any indoor places/activities so this was our first indoor experience and it was so safe and well spaced out with social distancing.
For anyone thinking of a nice family afternoon, this place is perfect and you take home your beautiful souvenirs that you painted.
We will be back. Thank you so much for making my moms birthday so special.

We had a family group of three kids and three adults and they could accommodate with next day booking via website. Had a little demo of pouring moulds and painting miniatures. If you have smaller kids try painting the wooden fairy doors.

Good morning and thank you for taking the time to put up a lovely review about us. Yes, we recommend any children under 5 to paint the fairy, monster, Santa, castle doors and leave the model painting to the older children and of course the big artists the adults.
Hope to see you all soon.

Visited the toy soldier factory with 2 young children. The staff were really helpful showing the children how the models were made and then giving instructions on how to complete the painting. The children are now hooked having bought some model moulds to make at home. It was extremely interesting and very different to what they would normally do on a day out. Enjoyed by all and we will definitely return when we’re in the area again.

Great day out for kids and adults. We all had a great day out. Our kids 8 and 7 are now hooked on model making. A lovely hobby for them both.

This is my second time visiting. This time I took my son with me who thought it was amazing. It was great to see the Waterloo display especially after visiting Paris and hearing all about the Napoleonic period. It will be a shame when it goes back to Germany but hopefully they have new displays organised. If you take young boys expect to end up buying a casting kit and bunch of moulds.
If you are travelling from anywhere other then Killarney or Cork don’t trust google maps, it will take you through all the little back roads unnecessarily. I would suggest getting to Killarney or Cork then use google maps.

How can we get from Macroom to prince August by public transportation? How far is it? Would a taxi be possible? We are planning to go from Cork to Macroom by bus.

The workshops vary from 40 minutes to 1 hour but you can spend as much time in the factory visitor center or exhibit hall as you like (opening times allowing of course). It is advised to come at least 1 hour before closing times to give yourself time to complete a workshop (even a 40 minute one).
