Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

we took a nice late evening walk around the gearagh nature reserve and with the late summer sun on the water ,the birds in full song and the a cool breeze blowing through the multitude of high grasses and reeds it was the perfect way to relax for the evening .. you need a decent pair of walking boots or shoes as the well worn pathways can be a little uneven in places but the sceanary makes up for any little difficulties on the pathway . it is also ell worth taking a good camera with you as you never know what might be around the next corner . give yourself a good couple of hours to see the best of this wonderful place .

Pls visit this unusual place! I have never seen anything like this! Meadows or wetlands, they are called, I think. Before I knew the real name, I called it: " Lee Valley and the rotten oaks" :-) .... Stop for a while, park your car at the parking lot there and take a walk over to the other side..... it is really something! It could be a bit spooky to some people.... :-) I loved it!

Beautiful place, drove past many times while house hunting in the area before eventually pulling over in the small car park. Location is 5 minutes from Macroom on the road to Ballingeary...last of the alluvial forests and remnants of the great oak trees that stood here stand in the waters of the lake created when the Lee Dam was constructed some years ago. Quite eerie early morning and I caught the place when it was raining making it appear somewhat sadder for the loss of those great trees...Great bird life though and great photo opportunities.
Having now bought a place nearby I will be returning to enjoy the walks and wildlife and get to know the place better as it is indeed a magical spot.

A strange , compelling body of water where you will see remnants of trees in shapes that remind you of people, animals.....and monsters! The whole surrounding area i fantastic for a holiday and so close to Cork City, also. Well worth a visit

The remnants of the great oak Forrest were sad. I looked at the hardwood, which is suited for carvings, but is prohibited from being removed. The flora and fauna was interesting. The two bridges are very intact. The best area by far was the large Bird Lookout, with all the swans mallards and different species,of waders.

The flooded landscape of the Gearagh was brought about when the damn at Inniscarra was constructed and the resulting floodplain filled with water. The Gearagh is a very strange lunar-like place, it looks like something out of a Lord of The Rings movie. Photographers will love it, especially at sunset in the summer months, or dawns with mists clinging to the watery surface.

A regular spot for a quick walk with great view of the Gearagh (fossilized forest). Great for spotting different types of birds. Our kids (between 1-8 yr) love it.

The stumps of trees peeking out of the dam water is nothing short of amazing, like from an apocalypse move!

It was nice to see this unique ecosystem called a alluvial forrest. However, it was very sad to see the gross level of human impact caused by the impoundment of the River Lee and subsequent drowning of the Gearagh all in the name of progress.
