A very easy train ride north of Dublin, then a short walk to the Castle. The grounds are very pleasant to explore and the castle itself is worth the tour. There isa shop, cafe and butterfly house as well.

Aideen, our tour guide, was excellent. Very enthusiastic and informative. This is a wonderful castle; the rooms are very interesting. The gardens are beautiful and easy to get around. There is a butterfly enclosure . Easy train ride from Dublin on the DART line. Only 5 euro roundtrip and you can get on and off at a variety of stops long the coast.

I have been many times with visitors. The guide was very knowledgeable about most of the history. I found some of the stories embarrassing as an Irish local. The wiping of faces on the tablecloth the American sycic seeing a little man...Pucks name not mentioned. Seen by many. We don't need it to be a visitor. Butterfly house closed. Gardens looking uncared for.

From the outside the castle is really pretty, however on the inside there actually isn't much to be seen (only very few rooms). We were there with a class on language week, but shared a tour with other people. Our tour guide was not really nice, as she seemed to have the goal of making my kids feel inferior in front of the other tour members (not because of their language skills which are B1+ but because of their not really great knowledge about Irish history). We paid for the tour and expected to get insights into Irish history especially of this castle, but left really frustrated.
The butterfly house and gardens were nice, though.

This is a guided tour visit and that made it so much better than any other castle we visited. The tour guide (and I cannot remember her name) was great, the stories kept us entertained and laughing. It is a small Castle so the tour takes only about 40 minutes but definitely worth the visit.
Train from Dublin was only 5 Euro round trip, well worth the visit. Train station in Dublin is just south of the River Liffey and east of O'Connell Street.

We visited the castle and the grounds. We enjoyed the butterfly house before we went on the tour. What a lovely tour with history about the castle and Ierland.
It’s nice to have a live tour guide and be able to ask questions.

We really enjoyed our visit to Malahide Castle,
the lovely Gardens and visitcentre with its shops
The tour in the Castle was very educational and the guide spoke in a clearly articualated voice.
Our visit was in april so there were already a view flowers and green trees.
Unfortunaltely the tourist train didn’t drive when we left. So we ordered a taxi tintje trainstation.

The castle dates back before the 1400s. Guides will take you through several floors and rooms. The grounds are beautiful and include the remains of an old abbey, the greenhouse with many butterflies is wonderful. I didn’t want to leave. The grounds are gorgeous and the cafe and store are probably the best for a stop like this. This is a favorite place for locals. I’m so glad we went here.

Malahide Castle and ground makes a good half day or full day trip from Dublin. It's easy to get there from Dublin. Take the DART from central Dublin and it's half an hour away. To get to Malahide Castle from Malahide train station is an easy 15-minute walk. There are only guided tours. The castle was home to one family for hundreds of years. On your way to the castle and back, there is also the Casino Train Model Museum right by the train station. Stop there for a few minutes as well, it's an amusing place.

Where do I begin with our trip to the castle. As a native of neighboring Rush, having moved away 10+ years ago - it was a long time since if visited. I believe I was 14 last I visited the castle on a school trip to see the model railway. Fond memories. When my Inlaws decided to visit from the states, their only ask was to see a castle.. Malahide had slipped my mind until I stumbled apon a review online & remembered my own fond memories.. So we booked a tour and took the 2hr journey down. The staff from the minute we parked the car where FAB. my father in law is an army vet with one leg & uses an electric chair to move around, which normally restricts him in places. Not here, they literally got their French student employee to carry a chair THROUGHOUT the tour so there was somewhere to sit, in areas they couldn't go, they aloud us to video call so they didn't miss out, not to mention giving them personal booklets to keep up.. Our tour guide (I'm sorry I cannot remember her name, but she was our guide Thursday 23rd March @ 11:30am if you're reading this) she was fantastic, deserves a raise for going above & beyond the call to make sure our tour, parents & even my newborn daughter where looked after to enjoy the experience 😊 thank you.. And Marlin, thank you too, I hope the rest of your stay in Ireland is awesome - the avoca cafe was new to me, but they too made sure we where comfortable and had all we needed regards dietary requirements. Highly recommended their chicken salad 👍🏻 Ground staff also helped with chair in places that where little sticky in the gardens.. All round it was a great experience and highly recommended ❤️ we will be back..
