Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I arrived on the beach shortly before sunrise, that is at 5.30 in the morning. A clear day was announced, but still cold at that time. I was afraid I would be alone on the beach, but surprise: at least 50 people of all ages were already swimming. I have no words to describe the joy when the sun appeared on the horizon!

Absolutely stunning beach. My young daughter said "it's like the beach was hoovered" not a stone. Honestly one of the best beaches I've visted. Only in Ireland u'd see a horse swimming.

I had the pleasure of walking this busy beach during a recent stay here. I found it very clean which was surprising given how many people, dogs and horses were also enjoying it. The perfect place for a stroll along the beach to blow the cobwebs away.

Not worth a visit, extremely bad service! Take your money somewhere else as many place would be able to accommodate you much better!
Worst service by a manager of the Jameson bar called Leo, he is a jokes which makes the whole establishment similar to a motel.
No customer service what so ever..
Would never recommend this place to everyone - please avoid!

this beach, for us was amazing, lots of room, lifeguards on duty, no big waves. Sand is a mix of soft and hard sand, no cars aloud on beach however horses are, which is nice until there's a horse race or what looked like a horse race as three horse & buggies sped past without warning scattering people out of the way on Sunday morning, thankfully no one was hurt, but clearly no policing.
We're deff come back here, we went to it everyday whilst staying near by.

I happened to be searching for some on-line photos of my local beach and came across this site. I live a five minute walk from Portmarnock beach, also known as the Velvet Strand because of its beautiful white sand, stretching for over two miles. It is (in my opinion!) the most stunning beach in Dublin and well worth a visit for anyone staying in the Dublin area. Although the weather can never really compare to that of many American beaches, it is the beach's
rugged beauty which makes it special. Unlike many coastal areas, Portmarnock is very non-touristy and for the most part, the beach is occupied with locals, many just going for a walk with their dogs. In the winter, the waves crashing against the sand and rocks is a sight to behold.
On a historical note, a plane called the Southern Cross took off from the beach in the 1930s to complete the first East-West Atlantic crossing.

The actual name of this beach is Portmarnock Velvet Strand.
This is the best beach in Dublin with miles of unspoiled clean stretches. It is perfect for strolling along at any time of the day. I went there twice - once post our lunch at the Portmarnock Resort, and then on the next morning. The weather was extremely pleasant for taking the long walk at both times.
The beach seems unending with a lovely view of the Irish Sea. The white silky sand offers a gorgeous relaxing ambience. I also loved the many historical informations displayed along the beach.
One of the major plus points is that is a dog-friendly and kid-friendly beach.
Definitely in my to-do list on my next Dublin trip !

Visited this beach after landing at Dublin port by ferry overnight... watched the sun come up and took in the sea air. Windswept with and great mix of rock sand grass and sea. Good view and at that time of day plenty of free roadside parking. For us it filled in an hour or two before the main attractions in Dublin itself opened. Would return

Portmarnock Beach is now becoming very popular with wind surfers and kite surfers. Because of our "not so reliable weather" and the long beach, it is ideal for many outdoor sports. During the summer you will see the VAI Beach Volleyball Tournament playing here, as well as many other sport throughout the year. A truly versatile Beach!

A pleasure to walk on this wonderful beach over the Christmas. I grew up here actually and it was such a joy to stroll along the velvet strand on my return home for the holiday season..
Miles if unbroken golden sands with lovely views of Howth and Ireland's Eye in front of you and Lambay Island to your left.
It helps when you get the nice weather too! There was a lovely vibe with everyone out walking off their Christnas dinners!
A must do if you are anywhere bear Porto.
